Yes, this is a terrible change.  Perhaps they took a cue from Sonar's new themes and the track strip coloring? ;)

Yes, this is truly a dumb move. It looks like I won't be upgrading until I'm forced to because a new library that I want needs the new version number.

Yes, thanks for the great info everyone, Kontakt 5.6 looks like an update I don't want to get, yet.
Changing / removing the colours on the virtual keyboard would certainly be a showstopper for my workflow.
Has anyone found any advantage to the new look they've changed that to ?

I'd bet my last dollar that's what it is.  That's the way marketing people think.  You can tell that the marketing people have a strong say in everything at NI.

It most certainly is.

"We make it difficult for them to see the keyswitches by making it look like our keyboard. That way it's always in the backs of their minds that the whole key will light up on our board when they squint to look at the little light on the player. We'll rake in the sales!"

I have been away and have not upgraded yet, I have a NI keyboard and love the light guide for keyswitches but I don't like the sound of the changes to the virtual keyboard either.

There's a petition on the NI forum to restore key colors. Hopefully, the blowback will convince them to make the new scheme optional.
