  • Should I take up composing or not even bother? (p.4)

Maybe the op meant recognition in the sense of listening and acknowledging his existence.  If that's the case, I'm willing to listen to his music.  All humans are social beings,Even the most diffident amongst us.  Its a healthy motive.  Just, please don't ask for an in person meeting. Otherwise my rate is $200 per hour.  NO SLIDING SCALE!!!! (Who the f came up with that bright idea?)

So I am just basically setting myself up for failure and disappointment then?  I have such a strong desire to get my music fully produced and to get it out there in the world to get it recognized,

What music? According to you, you haven't made any music. Ever. There is no such thing as wanting to get your music out there when your music doesn't exist. Wanting to have music to get out there? Sure. You can definitely want that. But unless you sit down and actually produce some music, you may as well be saying I want to show the world my magic purple unicorn that poops flying t-bone steaks.

As for not being sure whether or not to try because it might be pointless if you fail? Well I let you in a couple little secrets.
Secret #1: Its all pointless.

You have never existed here before. You will never exist here again. You could sit on your duff and eat corn chips until you die or you could invent the next generation of electronic instruments and either way in 100 years you'll be long since dead and no one will know your name nor anything about who you were nor what you did.

Secret #2: When its all said and done, you're not going to care whether you achieved fame or not.

Here's the thing. We're all going to die and none of us know when that will happen. So your heart condition doesn't change anything as far as deciding what to try or not try. Any one of us could get hit by a bus tomorrow, just like you. If we all allowed that to dictate what did or did not try, none of us would ever try anything.

So lets say you decide to go for it and try. And lets say you never realize any kind of fame for you effort. In the end, you're not going to care.

Here's the bottom line. Its a pointless ride. Your only job is to enjoy it. So if you think you would enjoy the process of learning to make music and then enjoy the process of making music, then you should make music. If on the other hand, the only thing you would truly enjoy is fame and recognition, then I highly recommend you consider shooting a sitting president*. Because that is the only thing that will give the vast majority of us any shot at any kind of fame. Even mass murder is common place now and so no longer awards the perpetrator any sort of lasting name recognition. I defy you to name even one mass murderer from the last 24 months without the use of google. If you want guaranteed fame these days, you gotta shoot a president.* That's about the only way.

*Warning: May contain sarcasm.

As for whether we all just die and that is it, that is a separate topic.  I personally remain open to the possibility of an eternal blissful afterlife and the paranormal.  So I am undecided when it comes to whether such things do exist or not.

I have created awesome and very unique strange music in my mind.  Therefore, it doesn't matter how pointless fame seems to you, recognition for such awesome music is really my goal here.  So I hope I achieve it.  It is something that really matters to me regardless of how pointless it all seems to you even if said recognition only lasts for one lifetime and that is it.

I could very well just go through with composing anyway.  But in the back of my mind, I would really hope that my goal gets achieved and that everything I've worked for won't all go to waste.  As long as my music gets recognized, then all my work was never wasted.

Lastly, as for enjoyment, I would really enjoy composing.  But only when that goal I am aiming for is attainable.  Therefore, I really hope this goal gets achieved and that my heart condition will allow me to fully go through with composing and attain this goal.

After years and Years of starring at it ,

A secret Message Came forth and my life was magically transformed .

Let me clarify a few things. I didn't say that pursuing fame is pointless nor is that when I meant. What I said was that its all pointless. Everything we do is pointless in the grand scheme. We're here now and the only point is to make ourselves happy. Because everything else is speculation.

And speaking of speculation, you're right the whole eternal existence thing is a completely different discussion. Which is sort of why I left it out. But since you brought it up, lets assume that we do in fact exist for eternity. That changes nothing about what I said. Think of how long eternity really is. Let's do a little thought experiment.

Take a moment and picture the largest number you can possibly imagine. Way more that billions. Way more than trillions. Now take that number and multiply it by itself. Then take the result and multiply it by itself. And so on and so on. And now realize that as gigantic as that number is, we've not even scratched the surface of understanding how long eternity is.

Now considering that, do you really believe you're going to spend the vast majority of all that time beating yourself up if you try this and ultimately don't succeed? If so then the best advice anyone can give you would be to not even bother. The simple fact is the chances of anyone ever achieving widespread fame doing this are incredibly small regardless of how much talent one has. Tons of people with way more talent than most of us will ever have try and fail to ever achieve and measurable recognition. So if recognition is truly your only motivation for making music, I would say skip it and find something else to do with your time. Because eternity is a heck of a long time to carry regret.

Now I don't know if everything we do is pointless in the grand scheme of things since I also remain open to the possibility that there is a grand meaning to this universe.  I don't know.  So I remain undecided on this issue.  As far as eternity goes, maybe up in heaven I could compose all the music I want and get all the recognition I want.  That is, if heaven is even real.

But if I can't do that up in heaven, then I would just be able to let go of the idea that I never got recognition for the music I have created in my mind.  What matters to me is that I am happy and get to enjoy life.  So as long as I get that up in heaven, everything will be fine.

Perhaps I could choose to revisit Earth and reincarnate in another human form who is free of any life threatening disease.  That way, I could fully go through with composing and achieve the recognition I want.  As far as recognition goes, you can pay to have your music featured on YouTube.  I think it is called promoting your videos so that you can get many views and comments at the leisure of your own home.

So this would be the easy way to achieve recognition and you don't have to work for any sort of impossible goal to achieve recognition.
