It's a brand new day in America (cue Sting). I'm thrilled. Watching the media last night was the most fun I've had in years. 8 to be exact.
Time to go on a repealing frenzy!
Just so y'all know, some of us here are in unfortunate situations where repealing certain things with any potential replacement policy being completely unknown could lead to very unfortunate results, depending on the new policy (or lack thereof).
Such as?
The talk of a replacement health insurance system has centered around an idea of "allowing insurance to be sold across state lines", but with little detail beyond that. The following scenario might very well occur:
Some states have very little regulation, and allow insurance companies to impose lifetime coverage caps and deny coverage to people with pre-existing conditions. This reduces the cost side for the insurance companies and allows for dramatically lower premiums. People will flock to buy there and save lots of money, which is great right?
But what do you think that would do to the rates for the people who have serious pre-existing conditions and can only buy insurance in more regulated states?
