Cake paid these 3rd party plugs for use with SONAR.  And any company worth their salt won't want to piss off potential customers that are already using and liking their products.  But to expect them to give you their product for free because of Cakewalk's bad business decisions is a bit much.  It would be pretty to think so, but that is not usually the way the world works.

As stated above, I imagine the third party software will make an honest attempt to keep us as discount-paying customers, but feeling sorry for Cake users will only put them in the same economic boat as Cake if they give away their product.

I understand your point and argument, but also remember WE paid for those 3rd party plugins as part of the package cost for Sonar Platinum.  Those plugins are a major reason why it cost more than say Artist.  It isn't like they were free to us because we use Cakewalk, we paid for them as part of the premium package.

Both TH3/BreVerb have been around for a while, not sure if Overloud would find it useful to maintain a light version for a discontinued DAW.

A more reasonable expectation might be a discounted upgrade to the existing full version, which used to be available through the Cakewalk store.

The ProChannel version of BreVerb has no home outside of SONAR (that I know of).

I'm porting the Gibson Bass Expansion Pack to Presence XT (the sampler included in Studio One Pro), and have asked whether PreSonus would be willing to give it free to Cakewalk users who had bought the version for Rapture. They agreed that it would be the right thing to do.

Yes and you also pay for the BF goodrich tires on your car when you buy a new car.. but you can't expect to ask for a free set of BF Goodrich tires when the company is gone under and you want those nice tires for your other new car.

I'm afraid part of the reason these companies make their products free with any given DAW is to help boost awareness and promote their product, but the deal they made was,, OK you can include it, but it's tied to your DAW only. We are only lucky that this was not the deal that all the companies  made with Cakewalk.

The full version of TH3 is currently discounted by $80 on overloud.com and sweetwater (and probably other places).  The discount is, of course, for any one that wants to buy the full version...no upgrade required.

We are still working with Cakewalk to create a special upgrading method of Sonar users.

Has anyone contacted TruePianos or Nomad?

I was looking at the full version sale for TH3 too.  It says it has breverb based reverbs included in the full bundle.

I like the darkness of breverb and the flexibility of TH3.  TH3 keeps revealing new things and I love discovering something I didn't know about or wasn't using (swapping mics on the cabs for instance is my new thing).  I would consider paying in for the full version even as I keep using sonar as it is for a few more years.

I just wrote this to Overloud,

"In Light of Cakewalk closing down. Many Sonar users are looking to migrate to another DAW. It is sad that they cannot take their very much loved th3, Breverb and Rematric with them. Perhaps I would like to suggest that overloud provide a special for Sonar users. A nominal fee for vst version of their Sonar/Overloud product and upgrade price for the full version."

Those of you who feel the same way could you please make the same request to overloud at https://overloud.com/contacts. Perhaps if there are enough number of request Overloud might just decided to do that?

Nice.  Yesterday, I also wrote Overloud asking them to provide an upgrade path for Sonar Breverb users.  I mentioned that it was locked to Sonar and that it would be helpful to have a way of updating/upgrading it to a version that could be used on other DAWS.  As it is now, there is no path to upgrade Sonar's Breverb to the full version other than buying the full version.

So thanks for doing this.

Not a great analogy

I do expect that I can take the tires off of the car that I bought and put them on a different car should my car break down.

It is a two fold piece, one of which is marketing and brand awareness, the other is revenue.  They don't give away these light versions for free.
