I understand your point and argument, but also remember WE paid for those 3rd party plugins as part of the package cost for Sonar Platinum.  Those plugins are a major reason why it cost more than say Artist.  It isn't like they were free to us because we use Cakewalk, we paid for them as part of the premium package.

your / my contract is with cakewalk.. their deal with vendors is like raw materials.. much like if you had an issue with your house, you'd go back to the builder of it.. not the maker of the bricks.

I'm sure they would want to offer you something to upgrade etc. taking into account you have that item.. but it's much like other vendors and LE and CE versions, they are just tasters to get you to buy the big meal (with extra fries)

to the OP... measured approach, makes a lot more sense.

Larry posted this elsewhere. is that relevant ?

I think most likely scenario is offer of reduced upgrade to stand alone product. It would seem odd for them to devote manhours to unlocking programs for free. Very cool if they did but unlikely.

Not many man hours would be required. They were the ones who put lock in, and it would probably take one of their coders 10 minutes to comment it out and recompile. A more likely roadblock is their licensing agreement with Cakewalk, from which they'd have to negotiate a waiver.

I'd think Overloud would have a strong motivation to do this, given that they won't be seeing any more revenue from Cakewalk. This would be a way to recoup some of their losses. Gibson, OTOH, is not likely to tear up any agreements until their lawyers have had their say.

{EDIT}
Beagle just posted this link in the Software forum: http://www.overloud.com/news/overloud-welcomes-cakewalk-customers
They are offering free unlock codes to Cakewalk customers!

With a vendor like Overloud doing this, it puts pressure on Gibson to give us the codes to keep SONAR running if CCC goes down.

I'm probably going to buy Studio One Pro, but I'd still like to be able to use some Cakewalk plugs, and get into old .bun files from 2002.
