Hi there:)

I've installed Sonar X2a on two Partitions:

Windows 7 64 bit, SSD with Windows and one Record Partition

Windows 8 64 bit, Normal Hdd and the same Record Partition on the SSD

I don't know when, but I don't think I'v changed anything, I can't open some Files, which I worked on the Windows 7, in windows 8:(

Sonar tries to open it, but stays working and nothing happens!

Perhaps it has something to do with the rights, to give all rights to the windows 8 user doesn't work.
Sonar has the same Directories in windows 7 and 8, Templates, VSts, Drum Maps and so on, no problem at all with these things.
But I can't open some Files in Windows 8. Not all files, some files are working! Why?

Any Idea??

Check your admin rights on the files.

Am I right in asking that when you mention "some files" you are meaning "CWP" files, as in Sonar Projects?

Anyway, you'll have to right click the container folder with those files in and change the permissions or create a share. Either through the "sharing" and "advanced sharing" tab or the "security" tab....

Make sure that in the "Share Permissions" you have "Everyone" to have access to "Full Control"

Windows permissions can be a nightmare! I am running Win 8 so I'm not sure what folder options are available in Win 7 but I imagine them to be pretty much the same.

Hi markyzno:)

I've given the full control with the admin user, but maybe I've forgotten some Directories, have to look, which Synths and VSTs i Use in these files (cwp, as you asked!)
Tried to make some new files with synths and samples from different folders and they worked in both, Windows 8 and 7!!!

As I said, have to look, which vsts are blocking in windows 8.....deleting one after another and save it as a new file, would take a while:(

So, I'll write again, when I have found something!!!

The problem is, in Windows 7 Sonar worked pretty well with absolute no errors or crashes, but on this Windows I have no Internet and nothing else, so I'd like sometimes to work on windows 8, where I have then some downloads or uploads or perhaps somebody called me on skype, and it worked a long time, maybe I've installed something new and I can't remember:(

Let's see....

thanks;)

You might need to check on C:\CakewalkContent, C:\programfiles\vst , C:\Programfiles86\Vst, C:\Programfiles\Steinberg\Vst etc etc depending on how your harddrives are structured/partitioned and where you installed the Sonar directories.

Also depending on what VST instruments you have depends where they are, I know for example alot of the Native Instruments stuff is deep in mydocuments, so for example, my Heavyocity libraries are in c:\Users\Public\PublicDocuments and then my NI VSTs are in C:\users\<username>\Appdata\Local\Native Instruments (and to view these you have to make sure that in Windows "Folder Options" you have the "Hide Protected Operating System Files" UNCHECKED otherwise windows hides these folders. To get to folder options on Win 8 goto the Metro screen, hover the mouse over the top right and then hit the search icon and type in "folder" and make sure you are searching in "settings" and NOT "Programmes"

Anyway, good luck and let me know how you get on :)

There is a cmd-command to reset the rights of all files:
icacls x:\projectpath\*.* /reset /t

You can try this command on the drive and path withe the Projects.
It runs in all sub-dirs.

+1

BUT!

Be careful of that command though (as helpful as it is) as you may end up changing permissions on Windows system folders which can REALLY mess things up.

HI:)

Windows 7 and Windows 8 Partitions are hidden from each other, so all cakewalk content, vsts, libraries, templates and so on are on a third partition, from where both windows can load and save.

Does work very well, but these strange files....

I've got a Mixing Job this weekend, so next week I'll have time to look for it again:)

Greetings;)

Hi there:)

I solved the problem, it was one Effect, that was'nt installed in the same vst DIR than all other Synths and Effects, so the VST Scan can't find the Effect or Windows doesn't has the rights to read this DIR.
No error from Sonar, only crashed!

OK, I'm happy again:)
Greetings...

So, there was a VST.ll file on a permission restricted location, you moved that .dll and now resolved?
