  • Will there be any further x2 update fixes?

Hi

I'm relatively new to sonar x2 as I jumped on board in Septembers rounds of the sales marketing thing...  If I knew X3 was coming out then I may have held off for a while longer...

Anyway, I'm finding far too many bugs in Studio X2a, I'm wondering what cakewalks policy is in relation to fixing X2a bugs - have X2a efforts been abandoned?

"What bugs?", you say,..
- Well if I change Playback and Recording Driver modes, for example MME to ASIO and back an exception occurs - this has been sent in but I've heard nothing of it and thinking its a known issue - when will this be fixed?
- Notebook sleep kicks in and causes unpredictability with playback device, sometimes changing settings and randomly choosing other devices, disabling others, check box visible while driver name listing disappears - is this a known issue or will this be fixed?
- Preference settings lost on next restart of notebook - gives me the impression that sonar doesn't shutdown cleanly hence again feel stability issues exist...
- Each time I start Sonar X2a there is always some settings I need to check before starting a new project, for any existing project I open I always need to again check preferences.  There just hasn't been a time where I'm comfortable with the preferences.
- Weird playback/recording and latency issues...

Mind you I'm just starting out and not a heavy user of the product, and I'm finding all this!!!!??? I'm sure they'd be more - I would have thought X2 would need to be worked on further.  I would have upgraded to X3 but I'm thinking is probably a lot more unstable as there is already X3b released and it's only been 1 or 2 weeks since RTM..

Will X2 continue to be updated, will there be X2b and so forth?  When will support for X2 officially be dropped?

I'm tempted to try the trial version of X3 just so that I can check stability and user experience has improved but I would like to hold off on that too, until I hear that the product has matured enough to be more stable and a more consistent user experience.

Kind Regards
Jim

It looks doubtful at this stage that x2 will be updated. I think you need to view x3 'as the update'. X2 was unusable for me.
Waiting is wise I think. I am keeping my eye on the forum to see how x3 settles in for others. So far so good. However, I have seen only one of the bugs I suffered has been fixed in the x3b update. But, others may be fixed too who knows.
Really really hope I can upgrade. X3 looks great.

We've been forgotten about. Left behind. I love my X2 producer. They should sell a patch for X2 to have the color change functionality. I already own Melodyne and a ton of plug ins, I really have no need to upgrade for another $149

That's just the problem, I do view X3 as the update and hence forth feel disappointed that I need to pay for an update when I just recently purchased X2...

I thought prior to purchasing X2 that it was already stable and pretty much mature and user experience would have been pleasant and thrilling - but frankly I find it horrifying (I know just playing with words), but really my experience so far is that it has lots of bugs and has been one bad experience from another each time I do sit down and try and use it.

Maybe my expectation is just set too high ;/

Perhaps you havent read many of the other posts but there definitely wont be any further updates to X2a.

In all of Sonars history, this is the first version where there has only been one update. Clearly Camewalk were at a.fork in the development road,

They chose to jump straight to a full new version. By and large X2a is at least as stable if not more so than X1d and addressed many of the issues that the X series uncovered.

When you buy software there is never a guarantee where you are in the development cycle. Sadly for some they will have only a.little use out of their purchase unless you keep your current version for 12 months before upgrading. Im an early adopter so while i get long use out of each version i alao have to deal with shaking out the early release bumps.

There are no plans for SONAR X2b. I know that's not what you want to hear but I also don't want you to think we are ignoring you. SONAR X3b is the latest version of SONAR. I understand your point and we are working hard to try and make SONAR better for all customers.

You know, there was a time not too long ago I said to myself: "if X2a isn't fixed, I'm not upgrading".  I work in industrial software and to be fair, a lot of the bugs in X2a didn't apply to me.  The audio engine bogged down a bit on me on big projects but I always found a workaround.  Just would have been nice to have it a bit more robust.  That said, I waited to see early reviews of X3.  I know this forum well, if there were issues they would be outed early. The first few reviews from some pretty critical guys here were positive so I bought the upgrade.  Excellent!!  Melodyne ARA implementation is wonderful.  VST3 - awesome.  Cakewalk presence on the forums - TOP NOTCH!!  I don't miss X2 at all.  Sure some won't spring for X3 for whatever reasons but to you I say: "Do".  Cakewalk has obviously put the resources and effort into X3 at the expense of X2(b), but what an effort!  This version of X has made making music fun for me again.  Not that X2 didn't, but wow, just wow, the workflow enhancements and stability of X3.  Well done, Cake, well done.

I really do not understand why some users want to stay at a specific version of Sonar and expect undated forever. It just does't make sense.
Sonar has a new version each year and if you want to be up to date you need to upgrade.
Imagine if Cakewalk had to keep everybody happy by having a team updating X2, X1, Sonar *, 7, 6, 5 etc.
For $149, you really can't get anything better.
Keep your selves from dining out a couple of times, or avoid the pub for a week, and save money for sonar x3.
Thats my 2 cents...

It also has to do with the frequency of use I think. If you use it nearly every day to make money, 150 is really nothing to get ARA and the new comping tools. Not to mention it's a write-off. If you're a weekend warrior, 150 bucks is a lot to spend on your hobby if you just got X2 last month.

I agree in a way.
But Sonar is a pro tool. If you don't use it professionally, the little bugs should not affect you that much.
I like the fact that CW re-wrote the whole thing and gave us a much better product.
Since PE8 I am surprised by the quality of the upgrades.
regards
