  • Will there be any further x2 update fixes? (p.2)

Djoni - I'm not sure if your post is referring to users 'generally', or if you're referring to the OP. It would be unfair to assume he is who you describe. I think the OP has only very recently purchased x2 without knowing x3 was about to arrive. He's not been waiting for an update long. Upgrading for him would therfore be another expense he wasn't expecting so soon. Same applies to me in a way, although I've had x2 for longer. We're not just wanting to stay with x2 forever. The quicker I can move on from x2, the better! But the lack of updates for x2 has left many feeling burned and now cautious.

My apologies, but I am referring to the users in general (and not only from this post...)
And yes, JimmyBoy has got a point!

Hi

I'm relatively new to sonar x2 as I jumped on board in Septembers rounds of the sales marketing thing...  If I knew X3 was coming out then I may have held off for a while longer...

I agree that things that only fix what was broken in the last version should always be given seperately to those who bought that, but experience of Sonar (and I'm sure other software) shows that's never going to happen. It's wrong, but seems to be the way of things. You of course, did not have that experience, but usually when something is so heavily discounted it's a sure sign that a new version is imminent, so you may want to consider that for any future purchases. As a crumb of comfort, if I understand the upgrade pricing correctly, you are at least no worse off than if you had waited as the combined cost of buying X2 in sale plus X3 upgrade is the same as if you were now buying X3 from scratch.

I posted this in another thread but I think it also does belong in this thread too,...

Since I have had Sonar Studio X2 for as little as a month, I have had consistently run into problems with each time I use the product just gets me so frustrated - I would expect that at least there is some sort of warranty support period to get me up and running or I can return the serial numbers and get my money back - or if the fix is to upgrade to X3 Studio then I should at least get consideration to a discount.  Its just wrong to expect new customers to deal with software that doesn't work well and it works better in a more recent released version while I only purchased the supposedly "old" software little than a month ago...   Those that say "oh but in the Software industry, blah blah blah" I'm telling you your WRONG!   Anyway I want to see what I can do to upgrade existing Sonar X2 Studio version to Sonar X3 studio, its the only way I'll remain loyal to this.  So when I try contacting, I get this error:

Welcome!

JimmyBoy - Well if I change Playback and Recording Driver modes, for example MME to ASIO and back an exception occurs - this has been sent in but I've heard nothing of it and thinking its a known issue - when will this be fixed?

Please list you sound card and system specs

JimmyBoy - Notebook sleep kicks in and causes unpredictability with playback device, sometimes changing settings and randomly choosing other devices, disabling others, check box visible while driver name listing disappears - is this a known issue or will this be fixed?

ALWAYS have sleep mode turned off, you can change this in your windows power management settings

JimmyBoy- Preference settings lost on next restart of notebook - gives me the impression that sonar doesn't shutdown cleanly hence again feel stability issues exist...

See above

JimmyBoy - Each time I start Sonar X2a there is always some settings I need to check before starting a new project, for any existing project I open I always need to again check preferences.  There just hasn't been a time where I'm comfortable with the preferences.

What settings are "some settings"

JimmyBoy - Weird playback/recording and latency issues...

Until you list your system specs and sound card this will be impossible to troubleshoot.

To be fair alot of the issues dont sound like bugs at all, they sound like a new User trying to establish Sonar working on a Laptop.

I really do not understand why some users want to stay at a specific version of Sonar and expect undated forever. It just does't make sense.
Sonar has a new version each year and if you want to be up to date you need to upgrade.
Imagine if Cakewalk had to keep everybody happy by having a team updating X2, X1, Sonar *, 7, 6, 5 etc.
For $149, you really can't get anything better.
Keep your selves from dining out a couple of times, or avoid the pub for a week, and save money for sonar x3.
Thats my 2 cents...

Hi djoni,

I only purchased a product last month, it had Sonar X1 LE bundled and then decided to upgrade to Studio version X2, (all the facebook ads diverted my attention to it).  So all up last month I may have spent (on my hobby mind you) around $400. (Her eis the breakdown - $200 for Scarlette 2i4 device and $149 for Sonar Studio X2 Upgrade, I also purchased a copy of Music Creator 6 touch ($49) for my other computer which is a touchsmart PC) and now I have to purchase another upgrade ($149) hoping that the issues I currently experience are resolved - man I should have purchased SOnar X3 Producer with the amount I invested already and may have been in the end a lot happier (but then again, the only thing that works well is the online store!!!)..

Fair crack of the whip - I might bring this up with small claims or ACCC here in Australia to see what can be done if I don't get anywhere...

mmarton I don't miss X2 at all.  Sure some won't spring for X3 for whatever reasons but to you I say: "Do".  Cakewalk has obviously put the resources and effort into X3 at the expense of X2(b), but what an effort!  This version of X has made making music fun for me again.  Not that X2 didn't, but wow, just wow, the workflow enhancements and stability of X3.  Well done, Cake, well done.

X2a was a mess to me (kind of death by a thousand needles effect) and I understand anyone wanting a patch for it, I much preferred X1d that was working very well. X3 however has been nothing but solid so far and I have to agree with quote above that music making is fun again, while in my case in X2 it wasn't. I think this is the best new version release the Bakers have had and it was a near perfect match for my needs and wants, even some I didn't know I needed or wanted. I would still however caution anyone to wait for and try the demo before parting with the cash. I had some special reasons to jump in early otherwise i would have done the same.

People are trying to be helpful. Really the way you describe the various problems is very general and could well be user error or inexperience with this kind of software. Sonar X2a runs very well on most peoples computers. If you give us chance perhaps we can help you to. We're considered one of the most helpful online communities. So drop the threats as this is a peer to peer community that can help if you ask for it.

ok for your info,..

HP ENVY J005xt has installed Windows 8 Premium Home, 16GB ram, 2 x 1TB drives, IDT HD Audio
Focusrite Scarlette 2i4
Samson G-track
Samson Graphite 49 (Use it for controller mainly - but since so many problems have not used it much at all).

Settings I am referring to are the "Preferences->Drivers" the audio IN/OUT drivers - sometimes they appear and sometimes they don't and then when they do, they are either unselected and I need to again select them again, they usually default to my Internal sound card when usually I use the scarlette - and then when I try record it doesn't record when I can listen to myself play and see the level is actually receiving sound - I can go on and on with the interesting fails I've been experiencing - the G-Track is a disaster imo - the scarlette is a little more consistent but still I have those idiotic issues - (don't ask me to list them as I have now uninstalled the lot and planning to re-install again soon)...
