If you save as a midifile you also get the tempo map for the project.

Midifile type 1 = separate channels on separate tracks.

I wonder if the tempo file will "pass through" to a new DAW....
Thanks tenfoot for the bit about separate tracks.
Midi file type 0 doesn't do that?

Midi type 1 preserves midi and all track automation, from my experience. It does not include tempo maps. It does include markers as a separate marker track.

Does OMF file include midi and tempo maps?

Thanks Steve.
I got this from Sweetwater
Type 1 files contain separate information for each track. For a Type 0 file, however, all the tracks are merged into a single track, although MIDI channel information is still retained. When a Type 0 file is loaded into a sequencer, it will take each channel’s information and put it on a separate track. So for a typical sequence with one track per MIDI channel, it will normally not matter if the sequence is saved as Type 0 or Type 1.
But if your source sequence has several tracks assigned to the same MIDI channel (for example several drum tracks playing the same program on the same channel, but with an individual drum sound on each track), then it is best to export it as a Type 1 file. If exported as Type 0, all tracks assigned to the same channel will be merged into a single track when the .MID file is loaded.

It'd been a while since I've thought or had to think about any of this! LOL

As stated above... OMF does nothing to, or for, MIDI. It only handles audio.

MIDI tracks can be dragged/exported individually or saved as a complete midi file that can be played by any midi player (ie MS Media Player).

To my knowledge there's no way to preserve an entire project into a file that can be imported elsewhere totally intact. It will require some work to set them up in a new DAW.

Midi type1 should include tempo and time signature changes.

Time signature and tempo changes will show up in the file opened on the new DAW Michael.

Howdy everyone, My old friend, David Spires, just sent me a link that some of you might find helpful to those of us who plan to use SONAR files in another DAW.

I'm so sad about what happened ...this is the best online group of any kind that I've ever witnessed...was with Cakewalk practically from its first breath...and like no parent ever should see his or her child lose its life, I feel almost as affected by what Gibson has done to Cakewalk and all of us.
I should have seen the writing on the wall years ago. Many years ago I thought I'd see what it was like to work for Gibson at the Custom Shop.  My good friend, Paul Rivera, introduced me to the fellow in charge of new hires and I became a tech in Final Assembly at the Custom and Historical Division of Gibson Guitar.  The instruments we made were very expensive, as you may know, and many of those guitars went to huge artists...I put a lefty Les Paul together for Paul McCartney, for instance.

Long story-short... The orders were coming in so fast that we couldn't keep up with the demand.  The manager, with his foot-long cigar hanging out of his spout, told us we HAD to speed things up.  Remember, this was the CUSTOM Shop at GIBSON! The next day guitars were being sprayed a final finish...but the next morning those guitars were sent to BUFFING!  Understand that overnight is simply not long enough for a finish to dry, much less be polished!

So, those guitars, one after another, came through my station that same day to be shipped that same day! When I was installing the pots and switches I could see the washers sink into the finish as I tightened the nuts!  Folks, this is no way to make cheap guitars even...but these were top of the line Gibson models that sold for many thousands of dollars.  I was absolutely disgusted.  In 1958 my Dad bought me a brand new Les Paul Special, cherry red, and that was my first guitar.  Gibson could do no wrong!
Within a few weeks I'd had enough and told my supervisor that today was my last day and I left.

I know the company has had better days since then but who woulda thunk they would buy Cakewalk, then turn around and kill it???  Couldn't they offer it for sale?
Sorry folks, I just had to get that out of my system.  I'm 70 years old now and have played guitar for 65 of those years, most of which have been with a Les Paul hanging from my left shoulder.  That's why I have scoliosis now!! LOL!!!  Maybe Gibson should pay for all of my chiropractic work as well as the surgeries.  No, that's not a threat, I'm just venting.

Anyway, if you don't know how to open SONAR files in another DAW, check out this video.  Take care everyone.
