I need to use some orchestral samples and my East West Symphonic Orchestra progam won't work, in fact the more I mess with it, the worse it gets, I've done numerous fresh installs but it just won't work like it used to. So I'm trashing that program will just use the samples in Dimension Pro instead.

It's your call, but IMHO, the EWQLSO stuff is light years ahead of the DP content.

Have you updated your Play engine recently?

Yes I tried updating to Play 4 and that's when all my problems started. Play 3 used to work for me, but not anymore. I can't even get the stock NI players to work. I have the Gold Complete program and also Silver Pro XP, but none of it will work for me. This is not an X3 problem it's an East West problem, as I can't even get the stand alone players to work.

No more East West software for me !!!!!

Depends on how you mean. Sound wise? It is hard to beat Eastwest. Those guys have some top notch engineers and make samples that sound amazing out of box. Some serious skills in that department. Programming wise? They are awful. Play has been a problem forever. I have never had it work well. For awhile with version 2 is worked mostly ok, but that is it. 3 Had continual clicks and such. Waited years for Play 4, and now it has stuck note issues.

I am in the boat with the original poster in that I think I am going to ditch Play. Too many problems, I just want something that works.

Yes the East West samples sound great if you can get it to work. But if you have to mess around with the program for days on end looking for that little glitch to make it work, that's a real creativity time killer.  I just want stuff that just works and not wastes my time. Dimension Pro works for me just fine. I opened it up and it worked on first attempt. No problems.

After posting a few questions on other forums, I found that I need to upgrade my Gold program to the ewi files from the nki files I currently have because the play engine only works with the ewi files.....they are having an upgrade sale this week, so I got the upgrade for $49 bucks.

errrrrrrrrrrrr !!!!!!

Further messing around.... I found that the Native Instrument engines had to be registered with the NI service center, once I did that the stand alone Ni players all started working !! Yay, but they won't open up in X3, X3 says there's still a problem with their installation. So I'll have to wait for the gold Upgrade to get here to install the ewi files and use the Play 3 engine which does indeed work in X3.....what a pain !!!!!

It was recommended to me on another forum to try the free Kontakt 5 sample player to access my nki files, so I downloaded it and it works perfectly in X3 !!!!! Yay !!!!  \o/

I've read a few horror stories about Play 4, so for now, I'm sticking with Play 3, which has worked flawlessly since I first installed it, along with EWQLSO Platinum back in 2011

Getting it authorized was a major PITA though.
I realised eventually I was using the wrong auth codes (16-bit instead of 24 bit) and from that point, never had a problem.

I hope the new player is solid... I have a couple friends with Kontakt players that always have little problems here and there.
