Dan Gonzalez [Cakewalk]Attempting to Repro now...

Hi Dan - please advise if you need any additional information to reproduce this problem. thank you

Thanks man, I wasn't able to reproduce this correctly.  Could you possible PM or Post a detailed step by step? I LOVE pictures and videos :)

Don't need much detail -
1) Any audio track
2) Open and turn on Prochannel and add an instance of the Tape Sim. Turn it on, Turn "noise" to full (not necessary but will allow you to see the problem in a reasonable timeframe.
3) Wait ( just now it took about 7-8 minutes before I noticed the meter on the audio track beginning to show. This is with the 90 db meters on my tracks.
4) literally there is no ceiling that I can see - the noise just continues to climb. If someone forgets or doesn't know about this i they could blow their monitors. After a couple of hours my monitors were HUMMING and the meter on my MAIN buss was solidly in the red.
5) if you can't reproduce this you aren't waiting long enough. Seriously,

I was not able to reproduce this, but maybe I am missing a step somewhere.

I will try again tomorrow - perhaps I am not leaving it for long enough.

The noise level increase was very slow on my system, even with the noise level maxed out, which purportedly increases the rate. I would say it took at least 30 minutes to rise 10dB, but it was definitely a steady increase that could not be reset except by removing the module.

I thought I had left it that long, but didn't see an increase.  It seemed to be the same.  I will try it again when I get the chance to leave Sonar alone for longer..

Thanks for checking JB - I just tried it on a plain jane audio track, I can even turn off the tape sim after it has been initially engaged, and (if I flip the tape sim back on), the sound has kept right on climbing. After a half hour or so it's a definite audible drone. If you and Dan can't reproduce it I'd sure like to know why it is happening - because although I really like the tape sim I wouldn't use it as it is,
Thanks again for checking, just don't forget it on in a track-

I'm off to bed now (early night, only ten to one here in U.K.).

If I have a chance I'll try it again tomorrow.  I had put it on an SIT with Lounge Lizard, as I thought that is what you had done, but will try it with an audio track tomorrow.

I am off to watch my son in a Harvest Festival tomorrow morning, so will try to set it up before I go, and see what I come home to.

Thanks JB - yes - the lounge lizard was how I first encountered the issue. Since then I've realized it is completely independent - any audio track will do. Enjoy the Harvest Festival.

Cheers

I can reproduce this as well. Very slow build-up of white noise that sounds just like the tape hiss we were all once so glad to get rid of :-)

I've had it on for 10 to 20 minutes and the channel output never changed from -56.5 db.

That's really strange. Maybe it is related to what else is with it in the Prochannel. I will play around with it again tomorrow to see if I can get it down to its lowest common denominator - at least here.
Thank you.

What's so strange is that it is so obvious on some systems but maybe not on all systems. I guess that's what makes tracking them down such a challenge.

Just got the same thing here. New project, inserted an empty audio track, flipped on the tape sim and left it for an hour. Came back and found this:

This is the level coming out of my RME:

Again, empty audio track, and playback was stopped...in fact, I don't think I had ever hit play at all.
Track 1 in the screen grab is just an instrument track with TruePianos on it.
