  • It appears X3 dropouts are mostly eliminated

My hardware is borderline for what one would expect to work on a modern DAW.  As such, I generally find it necessary to freeze most of the tracks I'm working on or else I would see dropouts at X2.

Playing around a bit with X3, it appears that the program is a lot more resistant to dropouts.  When I work on a project that would have seen a lot of dropouts on X2, I am getting none at all on X3.  It do hear some pops when the CPU saturates.  This is not a big problem as long as those clicks don't end up on the rendered copy.

Maybe it is just coincidence or my imagination, but X3 seems a lot more robust in this area.

It appears to continue to be stable.

I just upgraded from Sonar X2 Essential to Sonar X3 Studio. I was having dropouts before (which is a big problem for me, a novice, since that usually means you can't export the file to a wav). Unfortunately for me the dropouts have worsened with X3. To the point I had to go to Audacity to finish a project! I do lots of decreasing and increasing the gain throughout a clip and that might throw complication into the project files but I don't know, at all!
I have HP Envy H8 1437C with 12 GB ram, Windows 8.1 Pro Evaluation copy installed, Intel Core I.5. It's got an Nvidia card with Beats Audio (uh oh).

Even when I copy a track to a new file it carries with it the same dropout baggage. I have found the complicated support help "Dropouts and Other Audio Problems." Any specific help?

How to isolate what is causing the conflict and strip down everything to the clip editing I do (mostly recorded keyboard).
Sincerely, larry goodell in placitas, nm.

Dropouts should have no bearing on exporting WAV files.  If you have Fast Bounce turned on, then the rendering process should never have a dropout.  It will just take as long as it needs to render.  Is a dropout box actually appearing during the file-export process?

Do you freeze tracks?  If you are seeing a lot of dropouts, that will usually help.  Freezing gets the most intense computing out of the way so that it doesn't have to be done in real time.

I also find X3 to be noticeably more efficient.

What kind of an audio interface are you using?  Are you using MME(32bit) drivers or ASIO Drivers?

That's the first thing I noticed.  The biggest improvement is the stability.  I can now make edits in playback and move around without the audio engine crashing.
