Trying to do some "The Doors" songs and get it done in Sonar tracks (specially drums parts).. too many choices in the web, all seem to be free.
Is there a site better than the rest? Willing to pay for midi files..
Thanks in advance.

I've had free better than paid for and vice-versa.

I have a massive collection
Let me know which songs your after and I'll see if I already have them.
Midi files are so small I could get them to you pretty easily. I've often thought of putting them on my web site. Not sure of the legalities involved. Seems  a midi file is pretty harmless and not a threat to the income of a publishing house.

I have a lot that are my own creations so they are unique.
For those I only use Drums and Bass and sometimes a bit of keyboards. These are made for live performance by a guitar player so no cheezy wheezy guitar and vox parts.
Most of the ones I download need a lot of work. I myself only use the ones where the drums are well done. I avoid all the obviously done with Band in a Box creations which seem to predominate the freebies. You can tell them a mile away because they always have inappropriate drum fills.

Also, I downloaded drums for a cover song from the net, but unable to make it sound right through Addictive Drums 2 in my Sonar. Changed mapping within AD2 to GM (General Midi), still no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

It will take me a day to get this together so hang tight,,

I use Session drummer as AD sucks at GM for me, to much work. There is a way by dragging each drum part to the place AD uses. And there is the GM mode thing but I ended up with a lot of missing parts.
One other solution is to split the original drum tack into parts.
Kick
Snare
Hi Hat
Ride
Toms
Percusion.

Then use TTS-1 for some stuff and AD or SD for the most important.
After all for live performance it's not the same as making a hit record.
I actually use the TTS-1 Kick because of all the kicks I've tried it comes through perfectly the way I like it in a PA system. It has a nice low end as well as a mid-range tick.

Most of the downloads play the way they should with TTS-1.
So I start there and then change things to better synths as I go.
Mostly I mute most of the weezie stuff.
Solo and label each part.
Sometimes changing a terrible sounding guitar part into a piano makes it usable too.
One thing I also do is add real bass.
If I use midi then the SI Jazz Bass which I've tweeked a bit.

My doors collection is old so I'll have to dig deep for it.
There is a great download version of Light my Fire I have for sure. Myself I made my own version of Love me 2x.

Someone gave me about ten zillion MIDI songs. I can assure you that you don't want them. lol There were a few I used and re-did but almost as much work as starting from scratch. Just my take. I have a few Doors tunes. I will email the midi files to you.

I would also like to know more about what the legal issues are with MIDI files in general. As I understand the laws the club owner is responsible for music played in his or her club as it applies to cover songs. There are legal issues with posting cover tunes. Having said that, I think unless there gets to be very wide distribution it is very unlikely any one will notice or care much. There is a legal process to create and sell cover tunes that is well documented.

I also assume any song created with MIDI would be under the same laws as something created by any other means.

I assume that if I create a original song using MIDI and copyright the material that song would be no different than a original created in any other way.

I'll try dropbox, let me know if it works.

These are not that great. Sorry I'm sort of busy right now as it's light out until 10 PM so I hate coming in the house.

I think your right Bill. I doubt if the Doors would be upset that we are sharing a poorly done backing track of their material.

I think people download these versions and are immediately turned off. You have to heavily edit most of them. But the drums are the only part worth keeping. Sometimes the songs were created using a digital drum kit with a real drummer. Those are the good ones.
Not only are most of the download midi files using the worlds most terrible midi sound GM has to offer, but the arrangements are way wrong too .
If your lucky 1 in 30 might have been put together by a real musician and is worth doctoring up.
I preview them in WMP and focus on the drums.

I wonder if the same guy who gave you 1,000 song gave me the same. Some of them are just numbered files so you have to play them and recognize the tune.. A rainy day project for sure. But... if I ever get around to sorting through them all I promise I'll share my work.
There have been s few sites that I bookmarked that have been taken down, so I wondered if they either got busted, let their web site go or died of old age.
