So that's why no one makes a decent "banana puddin" no more where I come from. And here I thought it was the puddin that was makin the difference. Dern.

I was told by my G.P. that eating a banana everyday is good for maintaining healthy levels of potassium in the blood - important for diabetics and people suffering from hypertension (tick on both counts)

Shame I don't really like the bloody things

Apparently, there are a lot of fruits that have gone "extinct". 95% of the apple varieties that were commercially grown a century ago have disappeared, replaced by patented varieties bred for maximum sugar content but little regard for flavor. Same for most crops.

Rather than nuclear war, ice age or a meteor, humanity's downfall might ultimately be the lack of biodiversity in our food. When we're all eating nothing but Soylent Green, that's when the Koch brothers will corner the market on it and we'll have no backup options.

That's one reason I love gardening, I only grow heirloom everything. Ugly little malformed cusses that taste unbelievable but someone somewhere has saved seeds to everything back to the early founding days and before, still viable.

Unfortunately, a month ago, a supercell formed over my house and the 15 minute hail storm took out every flower and garden plant on the property, all just before harvest (plus my roof, my siding, my downspouts...)

I'm with you on that James......my whole family eats them , but I can't even stand the smell and have to walk away when they're eating (banana's that is...not the family ). I think it's from eating a lot/too much of them in my younger days.
