The banana problem apparently began even earlier than that. The popular novelty song "Yes, We Have No Bananas" from 1923 was inspired by a banana shortage.

I bought a bunch this morning, just in case they run out.

As for the Great Potato Famine, that kind of worked to our advantage. (By "our" I mean us Americans.) Had it not been for starving Irish folk in the 19th century, we might not have Conan O'Brien today.

Or me.

Hi,

In Brazil, there were/are many different kinds of bananas, and some of them fit better something else, than a fruit as we usually eat them, or in a fruit salad.

I'm trying to remember this ... but here we go, from my tummy's memory ... banana shake (Brazilian version is not milk based), banana milk shake (American style), banana ice cream, banana flambé, banana soup (there is at least one kind of banana that is not sweet ... it's kinda neutral and comes off as a squash), banana rice, fried/sautéed bananas (usually done with less sweet bananas),  ... and those are just a few that I can remember ...

Enjoy it ... even if you have never tried ...
