  • Overlap Cropping Tool: Well, I knew this was gonna happen...

The Overlap Cropping Tool is gone from unlayered editing. Again.

I had a sneaking sus-piscion this would be happening with all the new refinements to lanes/comping (which are looking cool, BTW) and I just went "yup" when I found the tool wasn't there anymore. It used to be a hotspot at the upper junction between two clips but it dissappeared with the release of X2. Luckily it was reintroduced (I filed a bug report) with X2a and since then, it's been at the bottom junction. And now it's gone again!

This tool is essential to my editing workflow since it enables me to move the edges of two neighboring clips simultaneously (and adding a tiny crossfade between them)!

I want to make sure I fully understand what you're referring to.

Can you place a clip on a Take Lane? Afterwards split the clip and then hold the mouse at the split point but in the bottom 50% of the clip. This should allow you to adjust the edit points and creating tiny cross fades. I'll try grab a screenshot for you.

Yeah, I can do it when the lanes are displayed, but not in unlayered mode.

I believe that is intentional based on initial feedback regarding Composite clips on tracks. I'll ask around.

I had a fear it was intentional. It's such a sweet way to join two adjacent clips. You just move the split point between them (with the little crossfade) making a perfect edit every time. I haven't found such a nice way to do it in any other DAW, and I've tried them all!

Well, TBH I'm not sure yet. I know that with the Comping Tool obviously you have your Composite Clip that can start have a lot of edits eventually the more takes you have. This is what I'm referring to more... that the Comping Tool on a "Composite Clip" was intentionally limited to basic functions. Your example doesn't sound like a composite clip though, so I'm not sure. I'll try to get some feedback.

Thanks. I dunno how everyone else manages without using this tool mode!

Hum, I got an automated reply from Cakewalk Problem Tracker saying:
- "The problem you are experiencing is most likely a system specific problem or a configuration issue that we believe can be resolved with assistance from Cakewalk Technical Support."

Not the answer I was hoping for! I don't at all believe that this is a system specific/configuration problem and I'd rather not call overseas unless it's absolutely necessary. Perhaps I worded my report poorly? What should I do?

I don't understand what you mean by "overlap cropping" in the context of take lanes.  That sounds like crossfade.  If you want more overlap, increase the cross-fade.  If you want to eliminate overlap, take cross-fade down to zero.

Am I missing your point?
