  • Editing multiple tracks with Audiosnap.. is there a way to...

Hi guys, still running X2 Producer (yeah, I'm so retro!) though downloading '3 as I type. However, I think this question will remain relevant:

I am editing some multiple drum tracks as well as guitar tracks (3 mics), and I would like to use Audiosnap to detect transients and then chop the entire performance up into single hits. However, Audiosnap treats each audio clip independently, thus you end up with a bunch of drum tracks (kick, snare, overheads etc) all chopped at slightly different points, depending on the transient attack of that clip. If you then quantize it becomes a phasey, flammy mess.

I would like to, for instance, use the kick and snare tracks as "parent" tracks, and make Audiosnap only use their transients as split points for all the other drum tracks too. Same with guitar where I want the close mics to determine where all the tracks are chopped.

Anyone have any idea if this is possible?

Right now I have resorted to TAB-To-Transient and Split, but that is a manual action and takes forever to do..

Any thoughtses?

You need to look at the merge and lock markers function.

Basically set all drum tracks to transients.
Select the overhead and any room mics, set transient detection to 100% so no transients are showing on those tracks.
Select all drum tracks including the overheads/room mics and choose "Merge and lock Markers".
Unlock all clips

They are now ready to edit. If you want to quantize or move the transients in anyway use the "split clips at markers" function. If you don't audio will stretch as you move it rather than just move like it will when separate clips.

Wow, thanks FBB. I tried it now - where do I find "Merge and lock Markers"?

Right click menu while over the clip. You'll need more than one clip selected though, obviously.

Great stuff Karl.

Don't suppose you fancy relocating to Bristol?

How far's the local race track from Bristol?

I don't think I'd cope though. I picked my replacement track bike up from Bath. I got vertigo and needed oxygen. Us Norfolk boys aren't used to hills.

So... all works well until I split the clips, then: Out Of Memory Error.... hmpff. Tried 5 times, even deleting all the other tracks in VSTs in the mix.

Of course, it's all flat out in the Fens Heh he.

There are some serious hills in & around the Bath/Bristol area - all due to being on the West of the country.

Can't say I've seen an out of memory error, although if there's a lot of tracks and it's a long project it does take it's time. How much memory do you have, I've got 8 Gig on my main system?

Ya 8GB, but running Win 7 64bit with 32bit Sonar on top. I was told that's still accessing all 8GB, but maybe not..?
