I want to adjust the default waveform preview to an integer of 1. The help file states you specify how frequently samples are taken, in the [Wincake] section of Cakewalk.ini. But my Cakewalk.ini. file has no sub-heading [Wincake] just the following…  [Aud] [Wave] [QUAD-CAPTURE (3 in, 2 out)] [AliasInput]

Does this mean I need to add both line like below?
[Wincake]
WavePreviewSampleFrequency=1

If so, is there any particular place it should be entered or just added to bottom of list. Note I’ve taken a back up copy of Cakewalk.ini. file in case I stuff up.
Thanks for any help.

Add the value with Preferences > File > Initialization File. Make sure the Advanced radio button is selected at the bottom of the Preferences Dialog to see "Initialization File."

Thanks scook...

I already have the Initialization File Open in notepad.
My question pertained to the fact that I do not have a sub heading [Wincake]
and if it is correct to add it and the new value to bottom of list like below…

[Wincake]
WavePreviewSampleFrequency=1

Thanks

The "correct" thing to do is let SONAR take care of it for you. It will add the section and the parameter. You can add it by hand if you wish.

Thanks again scook :)
Not sure I understand your reply, I don’t see how SONAR can take care of it, or add the section and the parameter. Somehow I need to inform sonar of the change I desire, if not by editing the Cakewalk.ini. then how else?

Did you look at the Preferences dialog that I referenced above? Here is what it looks like (from page):

In your example
Enter WavePreviewSampleFrequency in Option
Enter 1 in Value
then click Set

Thank you for your patients scook
I mistook the Initialisation File for the configuration file. (In fact I didn’t know it existed)
Aud.ini is a whole new vista for me.

Feel like I found that missing piece of a jigsaw puzzle under the table and now the sky is all blue instead of one area being wood grained LOL
Cheers mate!

Glad you got it sorted out. As I indicated above, any text editor can add the section and value but some might not know where the Cakewalk.ini is located. SONAR provides the front end for Cakewalk.ini in the illustration above just like they provide a front end to AUD.ini in Preferences > Audio > Configuration File (another advanced preference).
