  • Question about Drum Map/Step Sequencer Annomilies

meh
OK so I'm still trying to understand this but with the forums help I am starting to make some headway.
After a couple of post, reading the documentation, reading the blog, watching the new features videos here is where I'm at.
1. Made a new clean project
2. (from a previouse post) learned how to create a Track Templete and Drum Map for Addicitive Drums (thx Bruce)
3. Inserted the track template and assigned the drum map
All works well and all is what I expect.  For the rest of the night I just kept trying to make this all fail with no luck and continued making up a complete drum song using the correct drum map.
Saved it all and went to bed.
Woke up this morning and opened the test project ... highlighted one of the clips and opened the step sequencer and the mapping is there but the events are not.  The clips play fine but no SS events?
Did something not get saved?

Added 5 hours later
Still Playing and I find that even using it as a "Simple Synth" I get the same issue
Steps to replicate....
New Project
insert audio track
insert MIDI track
assign Addicitive drums as my soft synth
(optional)Assign a drum map to the MIDI track
View Step seq.....all is well
enter a couple of events
Close Step Seq
Reopen Step Seq
No Events in step seq
save the project
close the step seq window
re-open the step seq window
no events...but the seq stills plays

Is this a bug?

Thanks In Advance
Any Help Is Appreciated

I used to use Step Sequencer with drum maps, and had that issue, and a bunch of other nasty problems when trying to edit.

After trying a bunch of different things, I finally got word from the Cakewalk folks that they specifically do NOT intend to have folks use drum maps with Step Sequencer.

Their solution was that I needed to stop trying to use drum maps with step sequencer, and ever since then, that's what I did.

For the moment, that's just how it is.  I have posted on this from time to time, as it pops up every now and then.

I still use step sequencer all the time, I just keep a printed sheet that contains the drum kit and note number equivalents easy to see, and I no longer have any trouble.

For any clips you have already sequenced up with drum maps and step sequencer, to be able to properly edit them, you need to bounce to a midi clip, and then do any editing to that.  Get rid of drum maps for tracks you want to use step sequencer on.

Piano Roll View is another option, and I believe that works properly with drum maps, although I do not currently use it.

Hope that helps,

Thanks Bob....
up untill the upgrade I have been doing the same but I was hoping that this would have been fixed now that we have other options for drums.  It just makes it a pain to keep the projects documented.

Thanks again I wish CW would have just said so so that I did not have to spend an ungodly amount of time testing what they said would work.
