"Maybe I'm just f***ing stupid..."

Agreed.

all the "getting started" stuff can be learned in 20 minutes by following the tutorials at the start of the manual... less time than that whiny, profanity laced derp fest.

Every member of Cakewalk staff should watch that video. Know why? Because like it or not, he's a customer and he brings to light some genuine issues new users have that would be EASY to fix. As my boss always says, the customer is NOT always right, but the customer is ALWAYS the customer.

Sonar has a reputation problem. A big one. Videos like this floating around youtube ain't helping.

If you brush away all his rambling there are a couple of truths buried in there. I don't have any sympathy for guys that have the idea to try and learn complicated software while drunk or high. That's his biggest problem IMO.

Sober up, grab a coffee and start over man.

And this is what I'm talking about. Sonar has a serious reputation problem. I think its about as intuitive as DAW software can get, but I've been using it forever. To those who have never used a DAW, it is extremely difficult to learn and there isn't a lot in terms of video/tutorials geared toward absolutely rank beginners. Those with some knowledge base? Sure, tons of stuff.

But I haven't seen anything that walks slowly and clearly step by step through creating a new project, loads a plugin into the project and records with it, records outside audio into that project and imports outside audio into that project. Pure basics only. Maybe its out there but I've never found it.

But instead of fixing that issue, its easier to go oh well he was drunk so its his own fault and keep our heads in the sand. And we wonder why we're the also rans of the DAW world.

You just described SOME of the functions covered in the tutorials at the start of the manual. It walks you through all the basics step by step to give ultra n00bs enough to get working.

This guy obviously wasted six months without ever cracking the manual to the first chapter. Seriously it takes very little time to work through that section. Of course this is Cakewalks fault somehow.

It doesn't have a reputation problem, and in the end the success of cakewalk depends upon more than its customer service.  Did dungeons and dragons have good customer service?  The program is great, it sells itself.  If someone can't add 2+2 is the world supposed to stop and listen to his moronic rants?  Maybe if he weren't always drinking, he could spend a little time READING THE FECKIN MANUAL!

with Sharke here / great post Bitflippers thanks sharing it.

this gentlemen very clearly describes his point
someone at Cakewalk is now thinking 'Hey, let's make all new features idiot proof, so this idiot filled world can use it and we sell a lot more Sonar versions'.

I've had only good helpo from Cakewalk support

Those of you who bailed after 30 seconds missed some of his best material (although I don't blame you).

I did try hard to sympathize with the guy and see the real frustration behind the rant. There actually is a valid complaint buried in there, but it has nothing to do with SONAR's limitations and everything to do with product expectations. He simply bought the wrong product for what he wanted to do. And then blamed the product. And then got drunk and made a video.

Would his reaction have been any different if he'd tried Reaper, Logic, ProTools, Audacity, Studio One, Cubase or Fruity Loops instead? Probably not.

He was rambling about switching to Reaper. If he thinks Sonar is hard to figure out I think Reaper will end up with him hospitalized from alcohol poisoning.

I think he's trying really hard to be Doug Stanhope but failing miserably because he's not nearly as clever or funny. I've known a LOT of drunks like this and they are unpleasant to be around... at best. At worst they're totally insufferable fist magnets.

At one point he mentioned he "worked" in corrections (when talking about tattoos and ear piercings before saying a bunch of non racist stuff about hip hop and a black guy's tutorial... then made it awkwardly racist by declaring he wasn't a racist... WTF?). I've know a few "screws" and I've known a LOT of jailclowns. The screws were definitely lunkheads but this guy acts WAY more like the jailclowns. He actually comes across as a classic smalltown Canadian dirtbag/drunk.

Any points he makes (yes... the huge empty box is wasteful and stupid but I'm guessing that is needed to stand out on retail shelves and OF COURSE it's nice when complex programs are made easier to use/learn) get completely buried with his rambling, bad attitude and foul/agressive language. He could have made his legitimate points in a couple minutes easily.

All this coming from me... who has been known to curse like a sailor with tourrette's and (used to) drink like one as well.

No sympathy.
