Right on. I would like to add though that an A La Carte approach may not be such a bad idea from a revenue flow standpoint. Quite a few have expressed similar needs/wants as I have and it could be a way to keep some money flowing in between cycles. We are obviously all different in what we already own and our goals with the product.

Just a thought. Back to my session now. Cheers.

However, if anybody is looking for a rationalization or two, this is less money than going to Starbucks 2 or 3 times a month for the next year.

Heh. Giving up smoking is another way...

I guess I can give up bottled water.  Who needs clean, pricey water anyway?  Just think how quickly a dollar a bottle adds up.

Slippery slope. What you are asking is to start building custom versions. And what you want will be different than what another customer wants. And pretty soon we have 30 different flavors. We have to try and offer as much value as we can at each price point. We know some people will own 1 or 2 things but seriously start adding up the value and you'll see that $150 is a bargain. And if you have all the plugins, you can go to Studio which is also a great value.

We still have some of the most affordable upgrades in the industry. We stand by our pricing and think we put together a package that is fair for all. There are a lot of options and the fact that we put ProChannel in Studio offers the $99 price point still for those that just want the features and Melodyne (and Blue Tubes).

There may be valid criticisms of X3 or Cakewalk but pricing is absolutely not one of them.  The price is far more than fair when compared to the industry as a whole.  Whining about the these prices for that much power and function should be embarrassing.

Hey, Andrew.  Sorry you have to come in and put a proper prospective on the upgrade and pricing.  Seems this happens every release.  As far as I am concerned, SONAR has always been such an excellent deal.  And if Cakewalk has finally decided to up the cost a LITTLE, that is cool with me.  It is still the best package at the best deal, hands down!

Kind regards,

Michael

Uh... I've already paid a significant hunk of money and the legit competitors are pretty much on par with Cake prices if you strip out all the extra plugs. I'm asking to PAY for what would amount to a patch on what I have.

I think the price for studio is fair. but for those recently scorched by X2A that like me was hoping that X2a would have done me nicely for a couple of years, losing the producer status for future updates is a bitter pill to swallow.
So I'm very much with Beepster on this, wobbling about on the fence trying to decide what to do.

Yeah, I seriously am trying very hard to stay positive here. My timing has apparently been very poor throughout all of this as I have somehow managed to pay the absolute maximum amount for my Sonar package that others have gotten for significantly less and only got to use the product for less than one month longer than those who purchased at a similar time.

Please don't kick me folks. I could be really losing my shiz but I'm attempting to remain polite and calm.

Sooner or later I'll get an email from Cakewalk stating that I can upgrade from X2 Producer to X3 Producer for $99.  Until that time I'll keep working X2.  We got Halloween, Black Friday, and Christmas sales.  It's coming.  Especially if the majority of us hold back buying it.

Every version upgrade I've purchased since I was on Home Studio version 4 has been a great price.  There is no reason for that to change.  You just have to wait.

Agreed.
I just pulled up my store account. Earliest purchase on record is MP3 Encoder 6/13/2002. Since then I have purchased the following:

10/15/2012SONAR X2   Producer
3/28/2012ProChannel   Module - PC2A T-Type Leveling Amplifier
3/27/2012ProChannel   Module - PC2A T-Type Leveling Amplifier
1/19/2012ProChannel   Concrete Limiter
12/4/2011ProChannel   Module - PC4K S-Type Expander Gate
12/4/2011ProChannel   Module - PC4K S-Type Channel Compressor
12/4/2011SONAR   X1 Producer Expanded (Download)
12/8/2010SONAR   X1 Producer
9/15/2009SONAR   8.5 Producer
10/3/2008SONAR   8 Producer
9/20/2007SONAR   7 Producer
9/26/2006SONAR   6 Producer
8/2/2006SONAR   5 Producer
6/20/2005SONAR   4 Producer
9/30/2003SONAR   3 Producer
6/26/2002SONAR   2 XL

I don't think you can call me cheap, or someone that "doesn't get" the value of Cakewalk. :)

I've never complained of value before, and I certainly have no problem purchasing or supporting Cakewalk. However, with the lack of X2 patch that would let me actually use it (I NEVER could), combined with most of the Producer value wrapped up in plug-ins I don't need - I am not comfortable with the value presented today.

I submit that if Cakewalk is getting a lot of questions about cross-grading from Producer to Studio wihtout losing Pro-Channel modules, that a lot of people are questioning the value of this update...

The new EQ is 100% worth the price of admission in my opinion. It is just real, real easy to use. It isn't the first time I've seen an EQ that overlays with a spectrum analyzer but it does it very well and is real easy to control. I was amazed at how much I like it. So I would spend the extra money for it, if nothing else, unless you have another EQ you just love. It is extremely slick.
