I more or less agree with you.
Minimally the
05_XLN_Audio_Addictive_Drums_Download_Instructions.rtf should have had a line/paragraph outlining what process would be needed to activate A/D on a non-internet connected PC.

Actually per you example - this would be more like if you bought a car and Ford sent you to a hi-fi shop across town to install your sub-woofer audio system (or what analogy rocks your boat). If your woofer stops woofing Ford is going to going to have you contact the hi-fi shop.
