I'll never understand why people won't connect their puters to the internet for short times. I get the idea of not wanting the puter on the net but never? To each their own I guess.

Hi my answer here http://forum.cakewalk.com/Taming-the-Internet-m2897887.aspx

I would remember that many studios have the DAW in dedicated cabinet, adapted to be quieter and away from the offices connected to internet.
If were all laptops the problem did not exist.

Found the samples-sorry.

Can someone tell me where the addictive drum samples are?

There is a document ( 5_XLN_Audio_Addictive_Drums_Download_Instructions.rtf  ) that is included with the SONAR X3 Producer downloads. Basically it says this:

-----
XLN Audio Addictive Drums Installation Instructions:

The XLN Audio Addictive Drums is included with SONAR X3 Producer purchases, however it is available as a separate download from XLN Audio.

To download XLN Audio Addictive Drums please go to: http://www.xlnaudio.com/install and enter your Product Key.

Your product key can be found on the following web page and will also be emailed to you: http://www.store.cakewalk.com/default.asp?reg=1
-----

I think we can make it more helpful though, but ultimately that's what you're supposed to do to get it installed.

If so is awesome......It was what I wanted.
I download the Addictive installer with Sonar serial and then install in the main DAW,right?I hope....

I'd rather not do it and I really wish companies would keep their registration process simple/offline capable (somebody mentioned a Flash Player registration dealie... WTF?) but it's really not that huge a deal. If you are that concerned use FireFox with Adblock + and NoScript and within NoScript look at what the sites are trying to load. Only accept what is absolutely necessary to do what you need to and you'll be fine. Also having Microsoft Security Essentials enabled has never screwed up a download or registration for me even though some places tell you to disable your AV. Some of the registration thingies I've had to use (FXPansion, NI) didn't even open my browser (IIRC).

You can also create a restore point (or if you are really paranoid a system image) before connecting your system and if something goes all wonk you can just go back to that point and it'll likely fix the problem. Set Windows Update if you don't want to MS doing their thing but it's usually good to have things up to date especially if you are installing new programs/hardware.

IDK... I do all my program downloads and updates right on my DAW and occasionally some other stuff. I just stick to trusted sites and keep a working sys image handy. Trying to move crap back and forth between systems is a pain and potential even MORE of a risk if you do sketchy stuff on the download system (viruses hop from the download system where you were looking at porn or clicked the fart button your uncle emailed you onto the USB key or external HDD then your non updated, totally isolated and unprotected DAW gets ravaged by it).

So yeah... connecting to trusted sites with a light (up to date) AV and a good script blocking browser that is set up correctly is very safe. When I first started out I read all the stuff about keeping the system isolated but that is OOOOOLD knowledge and it gets repeated because that's what the pros are used to doing. Not saying check your FB or politcal rant emails from deranged family members every day but for downloads and registration 99.99999999999999999999999+% of the time ain't sh*t goan happen and it saves a HUGE hassle.

This is definitely one legit reason and I do not have a wireless card on my DAW. That's why I actually got the internet guys to install the modem in my studio room. However even if that wasn't the case I also keep super long ethernet cables around just in case. I think you can get a 50 footer for like $15 or something. Just run it from the router to the rig when you gotta do something. Not elegant but it works.

Oh and the reason I had to get the internet guys to install it was because the jerks actually use locks on the connectors so you can't unhook the modem from the wall without cutting the actual cable. lol

I did get them to use an extra long coax connection though so I can drag it around the apartment if I need to.

Huh....  a long cable isn't a bad idea.   I might actually try that, since AD would be the first time I'll actually need to connect.

Yeah, they are very handy for hooking up ancient systems or when you're too cheap to invest in wireless cards for your desktops. Also if you want to go poking around in your modem to change settings every one I've had needs to be hardwired.

I had something ridiculous like a 100 footer at one of my old places but I foolishly drywalled around it and couldn't get it back out again without smashing a wall. Now some other dork gets to use it. D'oh.

Hi Guitarpima,
For me it's not a case of not being willing. I don't have any internet at my house at all. I realize I'm part of an extreme minority, so I guess I just won't be using Addictive Drums. I've got software that I'm pretty happy with, but it woulda been nice to get everything I paid for. Oh well...

Leadfoot... Could you maybe haul the system to work or a buddy's house to register it? That is of course if XLN can't get you a work around. That is kind of a silly thing for them to overlook. Good luck.

there's a workaround in another thread, involving installing an a machine that is connected, then copying 3 folders & refreshing the library: http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/2900075
