Excellent work Chris. Sounds great. I love how you produced a very clear and wide stereo image. All the instruments are nicely modeled and nothing seems to diminish other parts. The swells are done well.

I enjoyed this piece.  It sounds large and balanced on my speakers.  Well done.

Thanks guys! - I have to be honest and say that the 'cinematic style' is not my forte but it's a fun genre to work with and I enjoy learning it's secrets and getting better at it

I appreciate all who have taken a listen

Quick (but exciting!!) update:

This track has just been used as the bed to the indiegogo campaign trailer for the film 'Black Angel'

Black Angle was a short movie written and directed by Roger Christian - The set designer on the original Star Wars movies, and shown in cinemas before 'The Empire Strikes Back'. Roger is raising funding to put a full length feature version of Black Angel into production later this year.

Chris,

I listened to the soundtrack first then listened again while watching the video.  WOW!  I'm not familar with how such things are done so forgive my question but, did you write the soundtrack to match the video or was the video edited to match the score?  I ask because there were some really nice touches where the flashing of the vehicle lights matched little flourishes within the soundtrack.

Also, you have a very professional and interesting website.

Hi Jim - Thanks for taking the time to both listen and watch!

This video was edited by a video editor I work with regularly, who also happens to be a close friend of mine. In this case (and several others we have worked on together) he came to me with a brief of the sort of sound he was looking for and the the approx length he required for the video. He described the type of footage he was working with but I didn't actually see any video while I was composing the track.

I created this track and sent him the first draft mix and we discussed his comments which I addressed in a final mix which he then completed his edit to. He is also a musician, so has a great understanding of the beat and pulse of a piece of music and will often create little moments like you noted where the brake lights are directly cued to a beat in the music - or the section at the end where the melody is rising in both pitch and intensity and he matches this visually with shots of the vehicle climbing up the hills - all subtle but clever stuff!!

Sometimes when I see his draft edit set to my score it will trigger ideas in me to pull little highlights musically to frame the visual action, so I will delve back in and makes the changes.

Thanks again
