  • What causes "general error" when saving a file? (p.2)

From what I've seen, general error is caused by:
  • The path suddenly becoming invalid (i.e. a disk being removed or disconnected)
  • Some other process taking exclusive control over the file (MS OneDrive & some virus checkers are bad for this).
I'd advise:
  • Do a disk check on all your drives, to make sure their not corrupted.
  • Avoid using subdirectories of My Documents / Documents & Settings for Sonar related files. OneDrive in Win10 will periodically want to take charge of these while Sonar is running, and will cause you crashes. Put them somewhere else, preferably on a separate drive. Alternatively, exclude these directories from OneDrive, or don't use OneDrive at all.
  • Make sure your plugin directories, project/wave directories and any sample content directories are excluded from virus scanners.

Under Group Policy, I have Windows Defender turned off and also Store and OneDrive turned off. I checked each HD, under Properties, Tools and it said "you don't need to scan this drive". I went ahead and scanned my HD's anyway.

As far as I know I have no virus scanner, I don't think I have Windows Essentials installed, because I hit the start button and typed it and nothing came up. I store all CWP files on my Data HD and all project folders for wav files on my audio HD and nothing is under My Docs except some presets.

Windows Search is disabled in Services. I've tried to disable as much MS background crap as I know about, maybe I've missed something.
