You can of course have as many busses as you wish but if you have less than 8 the remaining faders just snap to zero so it's not compulsory to have them all in use. Make sure you download the BCFView which is a freebie on the Behringer website. It's a virtual LCD so you can also see where you are, values, etc.

I'll check out the virtual LCD - that's news to me, thanks!

I have drums, guitar, and bass routed to busses, but I occasionally have a horn or 2nd guitar part that doesn't go to to a buss. I would create a new buss for each of those so that during mix down and I can control the mix on the 8 faders without having to flop back and forth between sections of tracks. Not 100% elegant, but it would get the job done...

Here's another sonar 8 benefit: You can set the bcf to follow visible tracks in the track or console views as opposed to linking to "all tracks" regardless of their visibility.

So, in short, if you hide tracks from view or just collapse a folder so you can't see them, the bcf will automatically switch to controlling visible tracks.

While that doesn't really address the tracks vs. bus issue, it definitely makes it a little less cumbersome.

I have found that the bcfview virtual lcd strip is useful but I honestly usually forget to load it before staring Sonar so I've not come to rely on it. I haven't been able to make it work under Vista either, for what it's worth.

Thanks for the Kudos on the taining video, smallstonefan!

Hi Blades,

That's interesting about the visibility of tracks. I suppose the only drawback is that the unit doesn't show you what track relates to each fader. I guess that's where the bcfview strip comes in.

I think I'll order one and give it a shot. I've been eyeballing them for a long time now. :)

Thanks for the advice guys, I ordered one today. I have to do final mixes on about 8 tracks. This will save me hours.

Hey James, That's quite a list of books you've authored. Impressive. I've monkey-ed with VB6 and Vb.net, but I'm a novice at best.

I think you'll enjoy your BCF if you really give it a shot. If you can undersand VB well enough to write books about it, I'm sure you'll get this thing figured out. You just need to make an effort to make it part of your workflow.

Hi Blades,

Yeah, I sometimes get surprised when I look back over my list of books. :) The years keep rolling by and the list keeps growing... lol

I can't wait to experiment with this. I have some mixes to do and I'm at the point where I really need to work with some volume envelopes. By letting me automate the volume of a many busss at once with my figners instead of that crazy click-drag fest of the mouse, this thing should save me hours of work!

Thanks again for the vidoes, they really helped. I'll let you know how it goes when I actually get the unit. I'm hoping before the weekend, but guessing it will be early next week.

You'll find it great for that. If Sonar were to have a binding available for restoring/maximising/minimizing tracks I'd throw my mouse(trackball) away 'cos I'd never use it.

Hi everyone,

I hope someone can help me. I've been fighting MIDI for 5 days now trying to get the Behringer to work. At this time, I have to connected to my MIDI sport 4x4 and I've flashed the firmware to 1.10. I also have it putting up in Mackie emulation mode. I have set it up in Sonar and everything looks correct. However, The Sonar control surfaces toolbar shows the device and in the window next to the device dropdown says "Connecting..." The Midi in light on the BCF blinks constantly, as does the corresponding MIDI OUT light on the midisport. However, no midi data is coming FROM the BCF2000 back to Sonar. It's like Sonar is initiating a handshake but the BCF2000 is not responding. I've tried different ports on the hub and even tried different cables.

At this time, the BCF2000 is dead to me (but is it a dead unit?) and I'm not sure how to even proceed in trouble-shooting it. Anyone have any ideas?
