Have you opened the control surface menu option and made sure that the correct MIDI port for both out and in are selected? The "Connecting...." message is what you get when Sonar's looking at the wrong port for it.

Yep, they are absolutely set correctly. I've even tried other ports as well and always get the same result.

Is there a system reset option for the BCF2000?

I'm beginning to think something is hosed in the BCF. When it boots up, it always comes up in the mode NCSo. It pretty much seems locked up to me. If I move a slider, it resets it back to 0, I can't enter the global setup by pressing EDIT and STORE. In fact, I can't get it to do ANYTHING at all. I've tried re-flashing the firmware with either 1.07 or again with 1.10. I select the firmware file and it comes up with a window asking me to select the device to update (which is good). However, I select the device and the application terminates without any error messages.

Meanwhile the BCF2000 just sits there with NCSo in the window. :(

OK, some progress...

I was able to get the unit to reset itself. I had to go into a different emulation mode, then go into global options, then set the mode to standalone 1.

When I fire up sonar, the BCF shows pan mode and I can press the various buttons to switch modes. As I do, the sliders move up and down.

As I move the sliders on the BCF, they move in Sonar. The shuttle buttons move back and forth.

PROBLEM: I cannot play any audio with the Behringer turned on! When I press play, I see the midi outs on the hub light up very quickly, I hear a little audio pop, and the transport stops. If I leave Sonar, turn off the BCF, and restart Sonar, I can play audio with no problems.

SECONDAR (MINOR) PROBLEM: Even though I have it set, just touching a fader does not select the track.

QUESTION: How do you get the BCF to run busses instead of tracks?

Thanks guys! I'm hoping the light at the end of the tunnel is not a train! :)

Regarding the unit sitting there showing NCso and doing nothing excpet snapping faders to zero. That is perfectly normal while Sonar isn't recognising it.

Once you get it working in Mackie mode to control busses you need to set the unit to buss mode which is done by pressing shift 1 (top left button in the main button section on the right hand side) at the same time as the button to the right of it. Shift 2 with this button sets it to Main Outs mode and on it's own is back to track mode. When you get it working properly open the controller property page where you get set various options including some of the F-button functions etc. If you press F1 with the property page open you'll get to the Mackie Mode helpfile. 99% of this will work with the BCF.

You can also visit the behringer website where you can not only download the virtual LCD (BCView) but also print out your own overlays. I printed mine out on a good photo paper and a little bit of time with a sharp craft knife, some double sided stick tape, a steady hand, and a good dose of patience resulted in a real neat looking overlay where I can instantly see what controls what.

The BCF is a steep learning curve to begin with, and I'm first to admit I initially wondered why I'd bothered buying it - BUT once you get used to it and have learnt the common keypresses you use most and have it customised how you want it I promise you'll fly round it and forget what a mouse is.

Regarding installation see my reply on the other thread if you haven't already. http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.asp?m=1621250

Hi FBB,

I read your other post too, thank you! It's nice to have the support. Time is limited, and I hate spending so much on getting gear to work. I have installed/removed the drivers many times. But yeah, the USB stuff is giving me fits. I'm going to check my BIOS and see if I disabled legacy USB support - maybe that's a factor.

The switching between tracks and busses works GREAT, thank you!

I got the F1 help for the Mackie up and will read all of that.

Now, the fundamental problem seems to be that I can't play any audio with the Behringer on. The BCF seems to be working fine, but it's stopping Sonar from playing. When I press play, I get a millisecond of sound and movement of the transport, the midi outs get from the pc spammed briefly, and the transport stops. It's like the Behringer is sending a stop command. If I can get over this HUGE issue, I think I'll be in good shape!

I seem to remember having this problem, bad news is I can't remember how I fixed it. I'll get my brain racking and see what I come up with. Have you tried raising your mixing latency slightly? I'll get back to you if/when I remember. Sorry, I know that's not much help to you right now.

Smallstonefan, just a thought but have a look at these threads. These helped me tremendously when I first got the BCF. Although I believe he's now upgraded to a Mackie Jesse G is/was a great authority on all things BCF. Hope they help

Thanks FBB. I just went and read all those threads over again but didn't find any clues to my audio being unplayable. If you can remember, please let me know! I'll keep fiddling with things...

SUCCESS!!!!!!

I had to put the unit into S4 mode - I was using S1 and that didn't cut it.

The only thing that doesn't appear to be working is that touching a fader doesn't select the track. I have that option checked, but it's now working. I can live with that though! On to video 2 and confirming everything is right.

thanks again FBB - this has been a seriously frustrating experience and I appreciate your help.
