X3a is for the full installer download.

Boxed users aren't getting their copy till next week. So a patch X3a is slated a few days from now. We're doing final checking on the installer, etc.

Dev has already been working on X3b since last week. That won't include the video features Noel has talked about being in a future update. That's slated for c.

My job is in Movies, So I AM VERY INTERESTED in what this may deliver?

Will I finally be able to get rid of flaming Pro Tools and stay inside of Sonar for all my work?

When will you give us more insight into these video features?

Then that's the one I will wait for. I pretty much only do music for my YouTube page now so it will be nice to do it all in the box.

I love the simple psychology of updates. Had X2 made it to X2f with half the fixes we'd have all sung it's praises. Downloading now, very excited to use. Thanks CW.

We're still working on the specifics, as X3b is slated for any required field fixes.

If you'd like send me a PM with some of the things that would make you switch over from PT to SONAR for the video work. That would be great. I can't make promises but it's good to hear from users who use the tool professionally.

Will do Seth.

Let me make this clear tho, for the most part ALL MY CREATIVE work is done in Sonar but alot of the boring deliverables side of things has to come from PT... I will PM you the boring gory details of what Distribution companies ask for when you are delivering a feature film to these fiends.....

Asides from the PM I will state this openly, OMFs have been a painful experience in the X series (havent tried that on X3 yet but I am assuming no change as of yet) and also AAF would be nice as thats becoming the norm.

I would also like to know more about this "post work" side of things. Though I've used OMF a couple of times and was not so bad... though I've always been puzzled by the dialog box requesting the user to enter a tempo value... (coming from an OMF project !!??)

I was always scared to mess-up the timing / timecode position of audio clips if I dared to enter an improper tempo ... :-S

Thats not really a deal breaker, tempo doesnt matter across a film and the video from your editor will (well should) come with an embedded timecode in the video file which Sonar actually does really well in matching to (I have never had any synch issues in that respect)

The only sync issues I've encountered has been when using high latency inducing plugins over the duration of very long clips ( though not specifically a SMPTE issue ) it has been discussed here earlier and the workaround is to simply render the track before export so, not a deal breaker either.
Very excited to hear about the possibility of better video handling in future rev's as well, still stuck using Pro Tools here for the same reason.
