Hi Peter,I would like to remind that many pro studios have turned off the wifi and web services in the pc bios to preserve spikes glitch and some problems with large projects.

I did not know that GIM... thx, bud!

Maybe I'm full of it here but I tend to think there's too much paranoia associated with having your DAW connected to the internet. I've never had a virus screw anything up in 15 years of being online. Just turn on your virus protection when you visit the internet, and stay away from Russian porn sites

Amen, Sharke! Also stay away from warez sites. Almost always a nasty payload.

Well, Peter J built my DAW and the only time the yellow Cat cable is plugged into that little hole on the back of the router is when I *have* to download an installable, register something or an update  Anything that doesn't require direct interweb is ported from another machine on one of those little thumb thing-a-ma-jiggys :)
Best To All,

It's not about attackers, IMHO, it's about what you do on your connected machine.

On my main DAW I never "surf". I have my favorites set to all my DAW related sites and I NEVER stray from them.

Simples.

On my remote DAW/lappy I'm only slightly more relaxed.

Final note: Take disk images after major installs/updates once verified to be stable.

I do exactly the same things mentioned above.

I also turn off wi-fi when I'm making music.  (No need to physically disconnect anything.  Just right-click on your wifi or network adapter icon and disable).

I've always been wired. No issues I'm aware of.

Installing addons like Adblock+ and NoScript on your browser will also help prevent getting infected.

When I bought my first serious studio computer I missed the fact that there was no wireless built in. It really didn't matter to me because I had no intention of going online with it anyway. Then I found more and more it was becoming a necessity to go online for registrations and if I wanted or needed a program and didn't have time to hassle with ordering and waiting on UPS or FEDEX, why not download now?
I ended up buying a wireless adapter which worked well because it made me aware I was online and could pick up something bad. I would jump on, go straight where I needed to do my business and as soon as I was done, PULL THE ADAPTER OUT! To this day my wireless only is turned on long enough to do what ever I need and then I shut it off.
It is a little more pain in the a&^% to do my windows and virus updates manually but better safe than sorry.
I think it is safe to assume a time is coming where you won't have any choice but to download from the net. Software companies seem to be phasing out the physical media day by day. We have become a I WANT IT NOW! Generation.

This is EXACTLY how I've manged my online activity.
