  • Why won't effects plugins stay in my Multidock when I save the project?

The console stays in the Multidock, as does the browser and any instruments that I dock there. But if I dock effects in there, they don't save with the project. When I reopen the project they've disappeared. This has always been a source of frustration and I guess I'm finally asking about it, lol...

Mine do.

Are you working on a locked screenset?

Nope, this is a problem I have with all projects, old and new.

It looks like it is working correctly here as well, at least on a small project.

Is it all effects, or just those from a specific vendor?

Same here
If plugs are in FX bin, they are saved in the multidock
If plugs are in FX chain in the ProChannel, then they are not saved

Why is this so?

Aha, think you've probably hit the nail on the head here - I virtually always use plugs in ProChannel FX Chains. Let's hope this has been addressed in X3. If not, I'll file a bug report.

sharky Maybe so, but I wonder if somewhere there is a setting that we are missing to toggle this feature?

I don't think there is a setting. Can't think of any reason why anyone would want FX bin plugs to stay docked while FX Chain plugs didn't. To be honest I think there are just certain oddities with FX Chains in the ProChannel. One other oddity that I found is that if you try and automate the "enable" parameter of PC FX Chains (i.e. the on/off button) then the automation will only be read if the ProChannel in question is visible either in the console or the inspector. At the time I pointed this out, someone from Cakewalk chimed in to say that they were aware of the issue but that they couldn't fix it because to do so would break other things. My guess would be that certain elements of the X-series were rushed and were never developed 100%. I hope it's fixed in X3.
