Elsmystery..so i take it your sole purpose is to spread your misery in hope of starting an epidemic?  From your list it sounds like absolutely have nothing but a heart full of narrow minded negativity.  For example, your response to melodyne integration implies that the only people who use this software are out of tune singers when that feature is probably the most simple feature of the program. I'm not a singer at all and I find Melodyne useful for a lot of things. Even if tha twas the only thing it did, do you really expect people running studios to tell paying clients, "go learn how to sing"? If you runb a business like that I feel sorry for your clients.

X2a could have been in muliple patches?

Good grief ya'll are cranky!..is it a full moon?

Would it have made you all happier if they'd just divide up the A update into lets say...10 separate updates?...would that make ya'll feel better?  Of course it would...you got 10 free updates...those bakers sure are busy!

Is that because of poorly engineered software not meeting the customers needs and expectations? I wouldn't brag on that.

I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous.  I'm sure the software is doing just fine for LOTS of users.

That many fixes tells me that they did not design or code the product correctly in the time given to form a new release with the end user desired operability and stability. Whoever planned and tested it, failed IMO.

I test program software for a living. If any of the products I have worked with had over 250 fixes in it for a single patch, that would exemplify failure in the prior development and testing cycle. They used to have a robust beta team that had a magnitude of environments. Maybe that is not so any more.
My point, as some people may or may not realize, The end user should think that there was time to get it right the first time. 250 fixes in a single patch just begs to have regression issues on stuff that did work. Wiyhout a follow up patch, those regressions STILL FAIL. Unforunately the cash inflow is more important than pushng out a schedule.

This is not the way Cakewalk used to do it. I am dissapointed in the current state of the product. I don't really care what others think about it since my money paid for it and my money paid for a sub par product that has stability issues on my machine and with my work flow. I have called TS a few times to help me out. They have, but there are issues that I will not see fixed unless I pay for an upgrade as I understand it.

I may just download the demo before upgrading unless they decide to give a steeper discount for X3 to people who have called in issues that TS/DEV deem errors with X2a.

im sorry but im having a hard time believing you do test software for a living because if you did you would have some answers for why your having issues and not just spiting out issues your having.
you'd also know that a fix (250 fixes) can mean a lot of things, like when you re-code one feature you need to fix 10 others.
I also think your being a bit childish. here it is cakewalks big day for their release of the new x3 and your here first thing in the morning the day it goes on sale.
your upset because others are excited to use a new product they have been having great success with.
they cant wait to see the new features and dive in to a software that worked great for them in x2.

So you've had to ask yourself a few times now, why are others having success but im having issues?
there's a conflict going on somewhere and rather than track it down its easier to come here on cakewalks site and post your displeasure in hopes of ruining any sales for their new product?
I don't get it.

and if you think the: "issues that you will not see fixed unless you pay for an upgrade as you understand it"
im not sure where you got that info from but if you cant be productive in the last version (X2) what on earth makes you think you can be with X3 ????

if these are show stoppers (a you've said) I don't think a new version is going to help.
if they are just annoying little things that your making in to big things, then yes im guessing youll be happy.
I myself think x2 had some annoying things about it and I hope they are fixed but surely don't think they are bad enough to start a thread out of jealousy

Wow, I had no intention of raining on a parade. Chuckie, get a grip d00d. Personal insults for another users experience. You don't know me or my intentions to say the least. You sound like the establishment when you don't agree with them. I have a differing opinion. Please allow me to have it and don't discount it. I use SONAR and have paid for all updates for many years as well as a long time user since Dos days. I feel my use of the product as a loyal user should allow me my opinion.

Conley,

I was making a generic statement based on observations from a decade in this forum that I believe to be true.

There are SO many variables in different software/hardware setups that can take the train off the tracks. And it could be so benign that no other symptoms point to it.

I've had a machine that drove me out of my mind over a bad vid card (and I put machines together for living at the time). And I replaced it because it failed at a later point and BAM... all the issues I had went away. So, it is possible, that a component or other program causes issues in Sonar. That said, I don't discredit what you say, but if <10% of users have a specific issue, it logically points to a certain scenario or configuration. And what any of this does NOT do is eliminate your frustration.

And for some reason, AMD built systems never did seem to work as well for me as did Intel based systems. I think in part because Cake has a good relationship with Intel and has worked with them closely over the years.

My 2 cents.

I agree totally. I remember when there were testers having toruble with the Matrox drivers also the Delta1010 drivers. I helped a lot of users getting the delta bets drivers posted only for our group so we could test it here with Pro Audio before they got released. Believe me I understand the driver issue. Thanks for the clarification! I appreciate it.

To those who think I may be trollin or purposfuly spreading H&D, I have been a loyal and diehard Cakewalk fan, user and past tester. I have even gotten quite a few people to jump on the Cakewalk bandwagon which resulted in a few sales for the company. I used to hold user seminars here in the Houston area for the SONAR users.  Don't hate me because I publish my thoughts and experiences. If you don't like it, you can bypass reading. If others feel like they have to chime in and beat their chest for SONAR and belittle my experience, go for it. You will not change my experience with the product, which should be what this forum is about. If you have some constructive information, I would love to have it. Getting personal, name calling, etc... really makes this forum not worth it. It used to be a nice place to hang out.

Since I seem to encounter the same bugs in X2 that I did in X1... (with a new computer and different DI between the two)... I'm not sure I'm ready to pony up to X3 to see if they've fixed them.  X2 is -=working=- for what I need right now, as long as I don't do things like drag a midi clip that has a midi plugin embedded or ever ever ever use the Arpagiator plugin, I'm generally ok.  At this point, I'm not sure I have a need to be on the bleeding edge of the tech, $150 is a LOT in my personal budget.

Choice is good thing. If your .sig is correct the upgrade to Studio is $99. Testing the demo, when it is released, for your specific issues might be a good idea if the upgrade holds any interest at all.

agreed. NOW to find the total bug fix list in X3... IF my reported bugs are fixed, I may look at the studio upgrade since I do not need any more synths or FX. I just want a working product that does not make me regret buying it 60% of the time when used.

Cakewalk always had a one year development cycle, that changed with X1, now its back again.

A business has to maintain a revenue stream, for the consumer its a two edge sword but if the company goes bust while putting out free updates nobody wins.

That is true to a certain extent...if you consider 8.5 a "Tick" upgrade, which it wasn't...
but they also didn't hesitate to "release" repairs or communicate about it as they have
currently...That put 2 years between 8 and X1, and maybe that's why they jumped
the 9....

No one knows better then I that a company has to maintain it's revenue stream...
THAT is why they develop OTHER products as well...so that the "S P I C E" continues to
flow...

From what I see, this upgrade is AGAIN a plethora of new 3rd party plugins...
more royalties to pay out for Sonar that are passed on to the customer...
and bug fixes and things that SHOULD have been included in X2....and, as
I stated...I don't need any more 3rd party plugins...I have too many already..
so "Most" current users of Producer really aren't gaining anything...other then
what they should have already had in the first place...

Biggest thing here is VST 3 support...that's a big tick off the list...so, I'm
grateful for that...even though I, personally, don't even need it, I know MANY
who do...

If it were a $50 upgrade...I'd be at the gate...but not this time...not at $150...

I'll bide my time and save some cash....and aggravation...and let them get it
worked out....then upgrade...only makes sense to do so...I'll just wait for the
HALF-OFF sale...

I was just about to buy this just now until I saw the price. Not sure where I thought I saw this upgrade was $49 not $149. I am not a newbie but I have been using Sonar before it was called Sonar and called CakeWalk. $149 is not enough money to take advantage of the new PC Eq feature and a basic version of Melodyne in my opinion.  I agree with everyone who feels some of these same fixes should have been include in X2B or drop the price of X3. To me this is a bad sign as to the direction of the company. I know their job is to make a profit but to the loyal customers they should have done something better.  Just my two cents

$49 is for the what was the 'Essential' version, which is only a few dollars more than the last X2 Essential sale price. Seems that X3 has started off as a sale.
