$49 is for the what was the 'Essential' version, which is only a few dollars more than the last X2 Essential sale price. Seems that X3 has started off as a sale.

To me if you are going to upgrade the Producer version is the only one worth getting

Not if you don't need all the plugins. Buying things you don't need is a waste of money. I'm a narrator, so all I need is two tracks and maybe reverb and delay. Paying for Producer would be overkill and a waste of money that I could put towards other equipment.

I feel like Cakewalk is extorting the X2a users who don't have the cash to upgrade and get working what should have already worked...

I will admit that X3a looks good to a certain degree, but I would rather have X2b.

Looking at the new features, it hardly justifies spending 149 to get only a couple that should have been included in X2b.

OK, so you're not going to upgrade, right?

You're grossly underestimating how much development work went into ARA integration, VST3 support, the Comping updates, etc. Our developers were literally working around the clock for months. This isn't a simple patch. It's not X2b. It's a major update and new version of SONAR. I understand the point that has been raised in this thread about wanting X2b, but these features are not as simple as "they should have been an update".

Great..... so, when is the X2b update coming?

Can we please stop this pointless circular thread right now? The rationale for X2A has been explained ad nauseum in a million different threads that X2A was a giga patch and that was the reason for no further updates. We invested a full quarter of the development year on doing X2A and it contained an unprecedented 200+ fixes as well as feature updates. There would have been no X3 if we had done any more.
Perhaps our mistake was not splitting this up into 20 patches with 10 bugs each to make it seem like better service :-/.

If that is the case, this should all be a non-issue with you.  Stick to Essentials.  In fact, i see no point in you upgrading at all if it really is that simple. The last place I worked for has been using Audition for years and has no intent to upgrade anytime soon.  I highly doubt Cakewalk is encouraging people who are recording two track voice overs to buy producer, hence the term "Producer". If they were trying to get people to buy a bunch of extra plugins, they would take the one size fits all approach Apple does with Logic and not offer versions with less plugins.
