It would be nice to see some special upgrade offer from Melodyne for X3 users to upgrade to full version at a later date. That would be a big win in my eyes.

The holidays are not far away. Lots of promos around that time.

I may have a misunderstanding.  I believe the Melodyne list prices for new users are:

Essential (the thing that is bundled into X3): $99
Editor (the full single-track product with polyphony): $399

If you are an Essential owner, you can upgrade to Editor for $299

If Melodyne regards X3 owners as valid owners of Essential, then they are effectively giving us $99 off the cost of Editor.

Cakewalk always had a one year development cycle, that changed with X1, now its back again.

A business has to maintain a revenue stream, for the consumer its a two edge sword but if the company goes bust while putting out free updates nobody wins.

X3 has had some major changes made to it's underpinnings (VST3 support, Aria, fixing the max plug-in limit issue, etc.) that even aside from the development time would have required a crapload of testing/debugging just to verify that they were not doing more harm than good.  All that required a significant of amount grease i.e. time & resources & money.

Personally I be surprised if an X2b patch came out - I just don't think Roland deep pocketed Sonar enough to justify the required resources to make that happen (on top of the X3 development)

It's too early to tell what the effect of the Gibson acquisition will be, hoping that when we look back at some point that it will be seen as a good thing.

X2b will be released. Probably by Namm.

There were too many "fixed" bugs from X2a to not be released as a separate maintenance release.

CW will probably release X2b after X3, to minimize X2 owners from being discouraged from X2 improvement.

If we are talking about the same web page - I thought so too on first read.

The page that I saw earlier (think it's been taken down since) was talking about the upgrade from Editor 1 to Editor 2.
Something along the lines of if you install X3 and you discover that you have Editor v1 you could upgrade to v2 for $99, but during October there will be a discount. Like I said it looks like the page was taken down so we'll see...

If you are an Essential owner, you can upgrade to Editor for $299.
If you're willing to wait - Melodyne Editor has gone on sale every summer (50% off) for the last couple of years.

They will not be getting any more money from me I'm afraid.

We keep getting all these sob stories from software developers about us supporting them or they'll go bust.

That support needs to be earned and charging me to put right their mistakes just doesn't cut it!

I'll stick with what I've got until it becomes incompatible with my computer/OS and then make a decision about starting afresh at that point.

Sensible option. Me I'll give it a few months before considering the upgrade this time, bought it in advance for X2 ... big mistake. so bar any major surprises I'll stick with Reaper for the time being.

Melodyne Single Track upgrade to Editor is not $50, that has been covered in other threads.

My bad. I apologize.
