  • 32 bit versus 64 bit with X3

I am presently on a Windows 7 32 bit system. I am not debating the benefits of moving to a 64 bit OS I just have not had the amount of time it takes to pull everything off and do a clean install.  Are there features or provided plug-ins for X3 Producer that would not work on a 32 bit system?  It may be time for me to try and find the time or convince my wife to let me buy a new computer (yea, that's the ticket).

Thanks for any advice.

Terry, I've been x64 since Cakewalk 7 and Vista. I wouldn't go back. I miss nothing. 32 Bit Plugs work when I need them, which is less and less. I didn't buy J-Bridge, but some advanced users have said J-Bridge has helped them keep using some of their 32 bit libraries.

Perfect Space and VC-64 are two 32 Bit Plugs I use regularly. The only minor side effect of the 32 bit plugs is that if I save the project during playback, I can sometimes hear a pop. That's the worst of it in my opinion.

I would never consider getting a new computer and go 32 bit.

Hi,

I think the time will come when you have no choice of choosing 32 or 64bit, because all new components of a PC or software will only be 64bit. So when you have the possibility to change to 64bit, do it - the sooner the better. Maybe you can keep a 32bit OS on a parallel installation for older projects. But all new projects, I would start with 64 bit.

J-Bridge I have found very useful in X1 and X2 - I run 64 bit windows 7 X1 (mainly - X2 never used) 64 bit  - haven't jumped on the x3 bandwagon just yet - just waiting to see peoples initial experiences - especially after all the X2 issues (resolved and non resolved!!) Have to say so far X3 seems to be what we have all been waiting for, especially us very dissatisfied X2 purchaers.
I haven't come across too many 32bit programs that I cannot get to work in 64bit by using built in cakewalk bridge or Jbridge

I could never imagine going back to 32 bit and working within the strict boundary of ram limitations. I don't have any 32 bit plug-ins anymore. If a company hasn't updated - then I moved on to something else. I don't even remember what I've had to give up, so I certainly don't miss it.

Unless X2 or X3 have changed (X3 looks like an upgrade I will do, but I passed on X2) the 32 bit version of Sonar will install just fine into the 64 bit OS.
You don't need to keep a 2nd boot around, just open the 32 bit version of Sonar.

the best answer of course is that x3 only works on 64 bit machines so you must have a new computer
