I don't know if it promotes melatonin or not, but my nightly application of oxidized tetrahydracannobinol does the trick every time. Locally produced, all-natural and certified organic.
Now, what I really need are headphones that remove themselves from my head once snoring commences.
Here's my idea: Build a device that mounts on the ceiling above the bed. This device has a retractable cable that attaches with a special connector to a velcro loop. You put the loop around the top of your headphones (or near the "Y" of your earbuds) and connect the loop to the cable. Just like those devices that sample sound to cancel background noise, when this devices detects snoring it softly retracts the cable removing the headphones. If it encounters too much resistance, the special connector releases (in which case you're stuck with the headphones on, but nothing gets broken).
Or, you can do what I do, I have these iPod tower speakers on each side of the bed by my head. No headphones to worry about (and, yes, you could always get one of those under-pillow speakers, but I doubt that would be worth it).
