Hi guys,

After scouring the web for answers without finding anything, maybe you can help.  Does anyone know if it is possible - and if so, how - to import  .aaf and/or .omf files into SONAR that were created in AVID?

Thank you so much in advance!

You can't open .aaf files, but you can open .omf's assuming AVID uses the standard format. Its File-Open and for Files of Type select OMF from the drop down menu. There's a section in the Help Menu on importing omf files.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your reply.  I can't get any type of OMF to open from AVID.  No combination of settings in AVID seems to work.  Also, it's a small OMF - only 127mb so it's not the 2gb file limit issue.

All I can suggest is to read the section in the help menu or manual on OMF files. I have no experience with them.

For example:

A few general guidelines for preparing files for import into SONAR:
version 2 is preferred.
AIFC can take slightly longer to open, as the data must be converted to WAVE on read, so WAVE is the best choice.
If exporting from Avid Xpress DV, select "embed" (not "link") when exporting the file, and don't include any video.

" I can't get any type of OMF to open from AVID."

Does this mean that Sonar says 'unknown format' or similar?
Or does Sonar hang indefinitely?

Or does it open in Sonar and is gibberish?

It gets all the way to 100% on importing the OMF. then I get an error message that says:

OMFI_ERR: Failed a semantic check on an input obj

No choice but to click "Ok" and then it crashes.
