I already own Melodyne Essentials.  Will it work with ARA integration on the base version of X3?

Yes if you own Melodyne essentials you will get ARA integration. ARA itself is available in all flavors of X3.

Keep in mind you will need to install the VST3 version of Melodyne Essentials (if you haven't done so).

On a related note, any special instructions for installing X3 Producer if we already have Melodyne Editor installed?

If you already have the latest 2.1 Melodyne,  it should be a seamless update. If you have the prior generation of Melodyne then the melodyne installer will warn you and take you to the celemony site with further instructions. AFIK you have to pay to upgrade to 2.1 editor if you have version 1.
