Supposed to have a gig tonight, but there is a high wind advisory from 3PM until 3AM tomorrow. The venue has a generator, but they don't think it's powerful enough to support a band.

Our guitarist has offered to play it acoustically if necessary. I texted him to count me in, but I'd need help moving my piano. It weighs about 900 lb and I have a bad back so I could only supervise.

I'm thinking we'd have a helluva crowd if it was the only place in town with power.

hi bit,
was going to say that the generator must be pretty small not to be able to run a band(amps,foldback,p.a.) as i rely on one during winter to power the studio but then realised that the venue would need to be lit and airconditioned/heated so that makes sense.
we often take the small backup generator and setup in a paddock or a valley for parties-the new generation gennies are silent and powerful and their inverters are pretty clean.
have you considered a piano-accordian or is that a dumb question?
cheers

Heh, I was just up your way today Dave!  Had to deliver some stuff and get some things to take back.  Rained the whole time, but no wind.  Got back down here and it's blowing like crazy.  We've got the wind advisory here too...

Apparently it's the tail end of - no kidding - a typhoon. Good news it's not going to be as powerful as anticipated, but enough to bring down trees. Tonight's gig was cancelled because our drummer can't get out of his driveway due to a fallen tree. There are also trees blocking part of Interstate 5 near Olympia.

Mid-October through November, it's the only time of year we here in the Pacific Northwest can legitimately gripe about the weather. Any other time we just turn on the national weather report and realize we live in a Goldilocks Zone of bland non-inconveniencing drizzle.

Next time you're up my way, Craig, feel free to stop by.

Well, I let go of a piano gig in Astoria OR sat night, because the weather and wind was supposed to be 90mph. It blew hard until about 6pm -  then calmed down - turns out I coulda made it after all!

No complaints about dodging the typhoon this time - good luck to those in tree clean-up mode!

You need one of those keyboards that will run on batteries.

900 lbs is way too much to deal with.

The power supply (or jack) of my faithful PSR-GX76 failed a few weeks ago. Been running on batteries ever since.
Sounds the same.
