Hello -
I'm trying to find a book to help me learn how to use SONAR Artist. I had a book by Scott Garrigus for SONAR 6 and notice he has another book for SONAR X3. Is SONAR X3 the same OS as SONAR Artist? If not, can anyone recommend a good book for SONAR Artist? Thanks!

SONAR X3 has more in common with Artist than SONAR 6. I am not sure any comprehensive book like SONAR Power! was written for the Artist/Professional/Platinum series.

Hi J... SONAR X3 Power doesn't cover the new features added to the current version of SONAR, but much of the information can still be helpful because many features are still the same. You can find a link to the book at my site: http://www.garrigus.com/

Also, I'll be publishing some SONAR tutorials on my YouTube channels shortly...

Thanks Scott - I'll pick up your X3 book.

Btw - I grew up using using analog gear (Tascam 4-track etc). About 5 years ago I decided to make the jump to a digital DAW but feared it was all a bit beyond me. Then my wife had the good sense to buy me your SONAR 6  book. I read the first chapter and never looked back. So thanks!

Hi J... Thanks! I hope you enjoy the X3 book. Thanks also for sharing that story. It's good to know I was able to help you move to digital. I was one of the lucky ones that learned both on analog and digital in school, so I understand both 'worlds'.

The thing about Scott's books is that Sonar mostly added on to an existing foundation, and Scott's books cover the foundation. So much of it, probably most, remains relevant.

Thanks, Craig! Looks like you and I are the only two authors still writing about SONAR.

You can also subscribe to Safari books online and they have the Sonar x3 books along with every sequencer book imaginable.  But you might have to write them to see if you can subscribe for $200 a year instead of $400
