I always get the boxed version. I know it costs extra but it's worth it when it comes time to do a re-install. I hate downloading programs, especially large programs. The download always seems to quit about half-way thru....or slow down to a snail's pace. I have a nice collection of Sonar boxes happening here.
One thing I've found is that not all features of one version is found in the latest version, so having the complete set gives you all the goodies. For example V-Vocals is included in X2 but not X3. So if you want V-vocals from X2, better get it now while you can, as it won't be available when X3 comes out.
i usually like having the box too. but the extra 30 bucks each time adds up (would be up to $90 for me with this upgrade). My backup drive has a copy of each install file of every download purchase I make, Cakewalk or otherwise. Plus downloading Sonar is still much faster than getting it shipped.
On another note: i think it is a bit ridiculous that Cakewalk has not made an official announcement at this point after all the leaks this past week. Online retailers and the Gearslutz press desk have the release slated for
tomorrow...... yet nothing from Cakwalk. No pre-release video, not official sale date, just tidbits of info from admins on the forum (which I am thankful for at least). X2 was announced in fine fashion, but this seems like a cluster****.
