I always get the boxed version. I know it costs extra but it's worth it when it comes time to do a re-install. I hate downloading programs, especially large programs. The download always seems to quit about half-way thru....or slow down to a snail's pace. I have a nice collection of Sonar boxes happening here. One thing I've found is that not all features of one version is found in the latest version, so having the complete set gives you all the goodies. For example V-Vocals is included in X2 but not X3. So if you want V-vocals from X2, better get it now while you can, as it won't be available when X3 comes out.

You can always download it and burn it onto DVD's or even save it on your hard drive. No need to download it again. I have a folder on one of my drives for downloaded installers. Gotta be worth doing to save that box surcharge.

In my past experience with having Cakewalk ship the box to me, it usually arrives in a couple of days. It's not a long wait at all.

It can take a month or longer if you're not in the USA

I'll pay the surcharge for the boxed version. I have better luck finding my software that way. It's all stacked up right over my monitors, and organized perfectly. The factory made dvd's are all in perfect condition, ready for a re-install anytime. I don't have to go digging thru piles of scratched or defective dvd's that way. I like it this way.

No, I wouldn't assume that. The upgrade price from Producer X2 to X3 is $149. You can figure out the rest of the math for the X1 Producer price.

Let's look at it this way. The included Addictive Drum is the full version which cost $150. So it is like you pay for AD at $149 can get X3 for FREE. That's a bargain!

Absolutely.  I have a huge archive of purchased/downloaded software stored on a network share on a ReadyNAS.  I don't ever touch a box or a DVD.  This is so much more convenient.

As far as backup goes, I have a separate ReadyNAS that is a backup stor, with incremental backups taken automatically every week.  Then every month I copy that backup NAS off to a USB hard drive that either goes into a fireproof safe or else goes offsite.  Everything I do makes its way automatically to those offsite backups eventually.

Every year or two I find a rainy day to go through that whole archive and delete the stuff I am certain I will never use again.

Faster too. DVDs are slow compared to HDDs. I keep all my software backed up on a secondary magnetic drive. Makes reinstalls way faster. Just click the installer, and the program flies onto the SSD :D.
