It's interesting how little comment there's been about colour customisation, after a couple of years straight of people talking like it was the must-have feature of their most feverish dreams.

No, I'm sure this info is correct (I've heard it from several sources now). i'm just disappointed the Steinberg guy didn't go into that kind of detail.

It looks like a huge upgrade to me. I can easily find $149 worth of plugins...Not counting the VST3 and ARA support. I realize most of us don't need more plugins, but need has very little to do with it. The improvements in the Pro-channel are great. Flyout EQ/ analyzer has been  requested a thousand times (as has VST3) and the tape sim looks good. Now if the graphic issues, Pro-channel bugs, audio engine and stability are there....Then this will be a great deal indeed!

I can understand why people want it especially after being used to it in pre X1 days but the sheer raging about it always seemed... well a little nutty to me.

Do the colors make it sound better?

Not seeing much progress in terms of core capability - looks like its a bunch of fx and plugins??

I don't know, to me these jump out:

• Skylight Interface enhancements and color customizations

• Craft the perfect vocal performances with Melodyne Essential - (ARA is embedded deep into X3 - this could pave the way for future functionality / extensibility)

• Comp multiple takes together instantly for the ultimate performance

• Improved video support including YouTube export

• Full support for VST3 synths and effects

Colour - its good but brings back something which I had in pre X. Melodyne essential - got V vocal (still a 3rd party tech), takes - was broken so needed fixed. VST 3 is good but no note expression.

Where's decent audio quantisation and tempo extraction, scoring, audio engine improvements, customisable  scalable UI... I could go on. Sonar is massively weak in so many areas I was hoping this version would have seen big inroads being made.

Not especially to me. I understand some people have wanted it due to eyesight issues, but aside from that, yeah, it's always seemed like a mountain being made of a molehill. And now it's here, nobody comments at all!

I see 2 errors in the large list FWIW.

Yeah the tape sim might be nice but if I really want something like that there are plenty of options out there. I think for someone just getting going with a home studio (as I was when I purchased X1) this'll be great. For those already more or less set up... IDK. It'll all come down to how many components have been fixed and where the stability is at. Time will tell.

$200 though... yeouch.

I think you meant to quote something else, Seth, as my post was referring to VST 2 sidechaining in Cubase :)

But since you're here, can you officially confirm that all these plugins will be in X3? And will they work outside Sonar as VST plugins (say, in SoundForge)?
