Re the Strum Acoustic thingie: Is it a VST plug-in, and can one export its MIDI to the timeline so as to use the MIDI to trigger other sound modules...guitar samples or whatever?

I'll almost certainly buy X3 at some point, but I'll wait until I hear some feedback from others on this forum. In general, I don't like the uncertainty engendered by the ownership transition, but I have to believe Gibson is not buying Cakewalk simply to trash it. They're looking to fill some holes in their product lineup and better position themselves competitively. Nothing wrong with that per se. It shows they value Sonar and intend to develop it further.

Bapu predicted that X3 would be available on the 27th.

I stand by that as a download directly from the CW store.

I don't believe you can access a digital download via cakewalk if you buy the box from Sweetwater, can you?

Question: I already own Melodyne editor which is a step or two up over essential. I use the plugin quite a bit. Will the integrated essential function smoother than the editor plug? What are the pro's and cons of each?

Currently in order to use the Editor plug, I have to save & close my session, then increase my buffer size to at least 1024 in my Profire control panel, (Melodyne prompts me everytime I launch the plug with a current buffer size of less than 1024) then re-launch Sonar, re-load my session, insert the plug on the track, then proceed with pitching vocals. After pitching, I usually just bounce the pitched track and delete the original & the plug. (Otherwise, Melodyne tends to cause me problems when i get into comping and mixing.)  Then I have to close the session, & bring my buffer down to a usable level for more tracking. (ie much lower latency) It's a bit of a headache, but Melodyne is awesome for turning a good vocal take into an amazing vocal take. I'm hoping the integrated essential version reduces my Celemony headache a bit without costing me all the fancy bells and whistles that come with the editor version. Seth?

It is a VSTi plug-in. Here is a link to the lite version. It is not clear whether the full version or the lite version is part of X3 but I would guess this is it.

I predicted October 3. Who do I need to talk to to delay the release date?

In all seriousness, I'm really excited to see Melodyne integration, VST3, improved comp'ing, and even some of those new plugins will be handy.

Hmm, interesting with all the new features like Melodyne, VST3, and improved video support.

Other than those three, I don't see anything else that interests me at all, I already have the full ASS Lounge Lizard - which is awesome by the way :-)

This time around, I'll be grabbing the upgrade if there is a time limited special offer, and shelving it while I save the rest of my pennies for another DAW, and time to learn it ASAP.

It's time for me to acquire and learn at least one, if not two new DAWs ... after all, they are just more tools in your toolbox.

If X3 is another case of 'look at the cool new things we've added including limited versions of another Drum VSTi, and AAS Modelled instruments" - (which you typically want to upgrade to the full version anyway) - instead of fixing long standing bugs, then I'll be targeting serious resource at learning and using another DAW for any future projects.

I don't expect any DAW to be free of issues, but Sonar has some issues which never get attention, and as much as I like the great things about it ... if the company won't fix serious bugs, there's simply no choice left other than to try out another tool for the job.

That's where it's got to for me.
I need to try another tool, because they won't fix this one !.

Don't get me wrong ... I love most of what Sonar is, and I'm not thrilled at the idea of having to go to something else, mostly because of the time and effort required.
But at the same time, it's the only wise thing to do.

The Gibson/Tascam acquisition has also had a bearing on making me decide tp prioritise getting another DAW sorted out.
I don't know if it's going to turn out good or bad for Cakewalk, but I'll be making sure I'm not a casualty if it doesn't go well.

Hmm, none of this makes me happy at all :-(

Cheers - Cliff
