Hello. I am using Sonr X2a (64 bit) running on Win 7 64 bit.
I have a copy of Steinberg's Virtual Guitarist 2 (VG2) that I hope to use with Sonar. I previously used VG2 with Sonr 8.5 on a Win XP - everything ran fine. Steinberg stopped developing and supporting VG2 some years ago, but .... hope springs eternal, right?
I was able to install VG2 on my computer. The install seemed to go fine. I was able to install the License Control software that Steinberg uses. The License Control software properly recognized my license "dongle". The Sonar X2 Broswer > Plugin window displays a folder labelled "Steinberg Virtual" - though the folder has no "+" sign in front of itand clicking on the folder changes the display of the folder to an "open" folder, but does not show an expanded list of folder contents. The Insert > Soft Synth pages lists VG along with the other soft synths I have. When I click on Virtual Guitarist in the Insert > Soft Synth page, I get the Options page asking me if I want to bring up the Synth Properties page, and how many outputs I want, etc. When I click "OK", I then get an error message telling me "Failed to install soft synth." No VG2 appears in my project.
Interestingly, I can launch VG2 in stand alone mode, and it responds to my midi keyboard, though the audio output is somewhat jumbled (it is recognizably a guitar sound, but the strumming is confused and not in proper rhythm).
I wrote to Steinberg Support, and they told me "we stopped developing VG2, we no longer support VG2, it is not going to run under Win 7 64 bits".
Shoudl I give up, or can anyone tell me anyway to get this up and running properly?
Thanks
