Received a printed Sweetwater catalog yesterday w/ a big add for X3 in it. Which I guess they had to print at least a few days ago. Meaning that the MF so-called leak maybe wasn't really a mistake on MF's side.

x2b = x3 paid update to fix bugs/or possibly add more useless effects, but don't worry, next year they will drop Gibson and switch to Fender for x4, so we have to dig in our pockets yet again to get those bug fixes and gapless engine that people have been wanting for years lol.

If you keep your eye on the forum you'll see that there are a couple things which are far beyond a point release in X3.

Not to be an arse but there really should have been one more patch. As a relative newcomer to the Sonar/Cakewalk fold I've found this release to have been handled very poorly and was not what I expected from all the research I did on past releases (which mostly pointed to a very interactive company that provided timely updates/fixes). It is highly unlikely I will be jumping on board with X3 as enthusiastically as I did with X2 or X1.

Again I do not say this to be a jerk or to whine but to let the powers that be know that as a newcomer I'm a little disappointed and will be far more cautious/hesitant while dealing with my Cake purchases in the future. The corporate turmoil is a little concerning too but I hope Mr. Anderton will be the one holding the executive reigns over at Gibson as he does seem to truly care about the program and understands its users. That seems like it would turn out well for all.

I think X2 is a great program and I won't say I regret buying it but some kinks should have been worked out before rolling out X3.

I will say no more on this topic unless someone asks directly because what's done is done and I'd rather focus on getting X2 doing what I need it to without stirring up trouble around here and keep a close eye as to what is being said about X3.

Good luck with the merger. I hope it turns out to be a winner.

Maybe it won't be X anything? Maybe it will be Tascam Studio or something?

In the FAQ section about the Gibson takeover they say "SONAR will be the flagship product of TASCAM Professional Software" so it sounds like it might still be called Sonar.
I wonder if we will get a new ProChannel giving that 'real' portastudio cassette crosstalk effect?

What should have been done is subjective. I think we all would have liked to do an X2b... but sometimes what you've done in past years isn't the best thing for the future of your product.

One year of reduced point releases doesn't out way the benefit of ARA....Especially when most of the reported bugs after X2a were due to 3rd party plugins. Contrary to the limited atmosphere of the forum, X2a was a great success in the field.

Right... and I get that. I really do but as someone who avoids third party plugs like the plague wherever possible I still have the graphical issues, selection issues and other weirdness. I'll be putting in some support tickets and effort into getting my system tweaked to get optimal performance for X2 but I have a feeling that will only get me so far as I have already followed the advice of support when initially setting up the system.

I really wasn't looking to pick a fight or give you a hard time. It was meant as constructive criticism. It's a great program but the oddities make it difficult to use and I've always got my hackles up as I work keeping my eye out for problems within the project.

The only third party plugs I use are BFD, TH2 and to a lesser extent GR5. Everything else are Cakewalk releases and the bulk of them were included with X1/X2. Considering GR and TH2 were both included with my purchases and I merely upgraded the programs the only true third party software I frequently use is BFD (eco with some Platinum Samples packs).

Anyway, what's done is indeed done and I'll continue doing my best to make all this work without freaking out or being overly critical but it has been a bit of a let down. Ask around. I'm not a basher/flamer/hater. Just telling it as I see it.

I'll reiterate... X2 is a phenomenal program and I do not regret buying it but it has some very annoying issues that I feel could have been minimized with a patch. I'm not a programmer but I have a feeling this has to do with the fact it was released to work with Win 8 before win 8 was released and all the new touchscreen weirdness (which I will never use) being put right into the main code. Some kind of separate install or touch skin might have been better but IDK.

Anyway... I've got other stuff to sort out because I will indeed be using X2 for a good long while because... well it's what I have. Just thought I'd toss out some ground level consumer opinion.

Cheers.

When that 'limited atmosphere' is a group of people who've been using Sonar for years then I'd be a little concerned at the level of discontent around here over X2a. Particularly if I were a Cakewalk employee. X2a has some pretty frustrating 'gimmicks' and when Cakewalk's response is "what should have been done is subjective" that's pretty annoying.

So you haven't been able to do X2B because you've been busy with X3. When Gibson get you working on R&D are you going to have any time for Sonar at all?
