x2b = x3 paid update to fix bugs/or possibly add more useless effects, but don't worry, next year they will drop Gibson and switch to Fender for x4, so we have to dig in our pockets yet again to get those bug fixes and gapless engine that people have been wanting for years lol.

If you keep your eye on the forum you'll see that there are a couple things which are far beyond a point release in X3.

Oooh... That's a very inviting tidbit!

Here's hoping I can find some cash for the upgrade... <sigh>...

Not to be an arse but there really should have been one more patch. As a relative newcomer to the Sonar/Cakewalk fold I've found this release to have been handled very poorly and was not what I expected from all the research I did on past releases (which mostly pointed to a very interactive company that provided timely updates/fixes). It is highly unlikely I will be jumping on board with X3 as enthusiastically as I did with X2 or X1.

Again I do not say this to be a jerk or to whine but to let the powers that be know that as a newcomer I'm a little disappointed and will be far more cautious/hesitant while dealing with my Cake purchases in the future. The corporate turmoil is a little concerning too but I hope Mr. Anderton will be the one holding the executive reigns over at Gibson as he does seem to truly care about the program and understands its users. That seems like it would turn out well for all.

I think X2 is a great program and I won't say I regret buying it but some kinks should have been worked out before rolling out X3.

I will say no more on this topic unless someone asks directly because what's done is done and I'd rather focus on getting X2 doing what I need it to without stirring up trouble around here and keep a close eye as to what is being said about X3.

Good luck with the merger. I hope it turns out to be a winner.

What should have been done is subjective. I think we all would have liked to do an X2b... but sometimes what you've done in past years isn't the best thing for the future of your product.

One year of reduced point releases doesn't out way the benefit of ARA....Especially when most of the reported bugs after X2a were due to 3rd party plugins. Contrary to the limited atmosphere of the forum, X2a was a great success in the field.

When that 'limited atmosphere' is a group of people who've been using Sonar for years then I'd be a little concerned at the level of discontent around here over X2a. Particularly if I were a Cakewalk employee. X2a has some pretty frustrating 'gimmicks' and when Cakewalk's response is "what should have been done is subjective" that's pretty annoying.

So you haven't been able to do X2B because you've been busy with X3. When Gibson get you working on R&D are you going to have any time for Sonar at all?

FWIW, the forum is barely into double digits of our user base and many don't post because of the negative atmosphere as of late.

Since we're primarily going to be developing SONAR, if the Gibson purchase goes through, I'd say yes.

Could this be a hint that we are getting ARA Melodyne implementation in X3???

I really hope this new release brings sonar back to where it should be. It's all very well saying that a lot of users don't post because of the negativity on the forums but a decent percentage of that was in your own hands. A lot don't post because they have migrated to another DAW, disillusioned from the lack of X2 updates in the last 9 months when there are many confirmed bugs.

It's great that people are excited about the new release and that most definitely includes me and I hope you are judged purely on the quality of X3 and not what may or may not happen after the takeover is complete which seems to be the current focus.

I haven't read all of the X3 related posts so correct me if I'm wrong, but does anyone else think it's weird that amongst all of this speculation, nobody has expressed a hope that staff view has been improved?

I assume they've given up hoping for the future of Sonar which is pretty much what I've done as of this thread and the response I got from Seth.
