I'm working on a project in X1.  In place of the default Pro Channel, what I am seeing on the screen are two vertical modules, the left one being the Inspector.  The right one, same width as the Inspector, has the following sections:
Snap to Scale
Input Quantize
Arpeggiator
Nothing changes from that view if I click on the Pro Channel Off/On, although that button does change color.  It also does not matter if it is docked or undocked, or if the Compact EQ Module for the Pro Channel is checked or not.
 
Can anyone tell me how I can get the regular Pro Channel to come up?  And then, if I wanted to again display the module with the Arpeggiator that I am now seeing, how I would get back to that?  And would there be any difference if I were using X2?

MIDI tracks do not have a ProChannel, only audio and instrument tracks have a ProChannel. The inspector is pointing to a MIDI track.

At the bottom of the inspector are two tabs named "Audio" and "MIDI" - simply click the one that says audio. You're using an instrument track, and they are divided into an audio part and a MIDI part. To get the panel that you're seeing now back, click MIDI again. 

Yep, only the audio side of an instrument track will show the ProChannel.

But, Sharke, there is no Audio/MIDI selection showing at the bottom of my Inspector, just the track represented, and below that, the Display menu.
 
So, if I have inserted TTS-1, for example, the Pro Channel will show for the TTS-1 track itself, although not for the MIDI tracks assigned to it.  Does that mean that I could get a Pro Channel effect on all of its MIDI tracks by using it on the TTS-1 track itself?

The ProChannel is for audio only. In your case, it will be on the audio track(s) receiving the TTS-1 output. The TTS-1 is a 16in 4out synth. So you could route 16 MIDI tracks into the TTS-1, assign them to the 4 output audio tracks and put PC effects on the 4 audio tracks.
 
MIDI tracks do not have a ProChannel because they are not audio tracks.
 
Instrument tracks are a combination of an audio track and a MIDI track. The inspector for an instrument track has tabs at the bottom to view the audio or MIDI portion of the tracks. But this does not matter in your case as you are using MIDI track(s) to drive the TTS-1 and audio track(s) to play the output of the TTS-1.
 

Well, I finally figured out why I could not relate to some of these answers since I could not find any Audio or MIDI selections to make at the bottom of the Inspector.  The reason is because I did not select "Simple Instrument Track" from the "Insert Soft Synth Options"  when I inserted TTS-1.  I had selected either "First Synth Audio Output" or "All Synth Audio  Outputs," neither of which show that Audio or MIDI choice at the bottom of the Inspector.  (How you are supposed to know why to make one choice versus another on that dialog box I have never figured out, and have never seen it explained anywhere.)
 
Here is what I would still like to know:  Can I get a Pro Channel effect on the audio playback of a MIDI track that has been assigned to TTS-1 (or any other soft synth) if I choose Pro Channel as an effect on the audio of the TTS-1 instrument track?

If you're struggling with understanding the routing between midi and audio tracks, try inserting a vst as a simple instrument track, then right click on the track and choose Split Instrument Track. The audio track that emerges will have prochannel

To answer your main question, yes, you can enable ProChannel FX on the audio track receiving the output of a soft synth (making it an Instrument Track).
 
Regarding all the choices in the Insert synth dialog, they are there to accommodate the different way users like to work, or need to work, depending on the synth and the situation. Some synths (notably drum and multitimbral synths like TTS-1) often need to be set up with multiple audio tracks to host their multiple outputs so different instruments can be processed independently. But for simplicity, a synth that has only one output can be set up as a Simple Instrument track. But if you're setting up synths for an existing MIDI file, you don't need MIDI tracks, so you would just want to have audio tracks created for the synth outputs.

This is my situation:  I have 16 MIDI tracks set up (which came from opening a MIDI file exported from another program).  I now insert 1 instance of TTS-1 and assign it to all 16 tracks.  Then I put Pro Channel on the TTS-1 instrument track.
 
Does that mean that all 16 tracks will incorporate the Pro Channel effects on playback?  If so, I assume that I would not be able to deselect any one of the 16 MIDI tracks.  The only way I could avoid the Pro Channel effects on any of them would be to not assign that instance of TTS-1 to them in the first place.  Am I correct on this?
