I use Sonar X2 Producer.
I am trying to use Toontracks SD2 unsuccessfully at the moment.
I can audition grooves but when I drag and drop into Sonar I get no sound output at all.
Could anyone point me in the right direction please?

Thanks
Jorel

At a minimum, you need to have one audio track with its input set to SD2, and a MIDI track with its output set to SD2 into which to drop the MIDI file. Or they can be a single Simple Instrument track. You can have SONAR create these tracks for you when you insert the synth.

I can't help you beyond that because I coincidentally just installed the SD 2.3.2 program and sample updates, and it's now hanging on loading samples.

As brundlefly said above,
Check your inputs and outputs,

  1. Are you seeing anything on the levels in console view, ie, is midi being sent (midi track) is audio being sent from SD2 (audio or SIT track) anything from the bus (master)
  2. Are you seeing drum hits in SD2's window (should see the heads appear to be hit)
  3. Can you hear the metronome in playback mode (play icon right of transport window on control bar) enable and press play, are you hearing the click?

Just FYI:  Got my installation working again. The update installer laid down the new DLL in the wrong directory path, and apparently the old VST can't load the new libraries. Copied the DLL to where SONAR was looking, and it's all good.

Also verified MIDI patterns dragged to a track pointing at Superior Drummer as described earlier are playing back as expected.

Great thanks. Up and running complete with updates and new midi files.
Thanks for the help.

Or you could tell Sonar where to look...

Yes, but I like to keep all my VST DLLs in \Cakewalk\Vstplugins on the D: partition where all my apps are installed, including Superior Drummer. Most VST installers will ask you where you want the files installed but Toontrack did not, and created its own Vstplugins directory on my system partition where I try not to have stuff like that.
