  • Tracks and track folders processing could be easier... (p.2)

Correct! And I agree it's a major PITA.

It's far too inflexible having to do that.

Hehe. I just discovered that you can split all the tracks in a folder (like drums) at once by splitting at the folder header ( or whatever you'd call it). Very cool!

While we're at it, isn't it about time we had nested folders?

What might that be used for ? I can only think of maybe one thing - Something like - Strings [top folder] / cellos [folder] /stac/marc/leg short . . . . Violins [folder] 11 violins marc/11violins stac/ yada yada. But I don't see not having this as a  big whoop and I have a ton of orchestral tracks going usually.

I would much rather be able to print out track data like: assignments, instrument patches, plugs, audio clip data, everything concerning the track so that we can keep detailed notes as engineers and producers are supposed to do. Guess it must be really hard for a roomful of programmers to make a computer do that.

Your example, whilst pertinent, doesn't go far enough.

I'd like for instance to have one overall guitar folder, then sub-folders for bass, acoustic, electrics, then split the electrics out into clean/distorted
And drums, have one top level for drums, then sub folders for kicks, snares, toms, cymbals
Vocals? Lead Vox, BU vox, Harmony vox.

Or you could split them according to Fx used - delayed vox, chorused guitars, I'm sure this is just the tip of the iceberg of what you could do with a fully featured nested system.

Amen to that, Danny. It's beyond me why no DAW vendor has thought of adding reporting tools.

The problem is that programmers are no longer driving the bus at Cakewalk.

My complaint is: why isn't there an option to make new tracks appear under the currently-selected folder rather than always being appended to the bottom?

This has been the way as long as I can remember. And I could never figure out why. Just put the new trk above or below currently selected trk. How hard can that be?

Exactly. Lately I've been using nested folders in another daw & they're invaluable doing orchestration.

Sub sections in sections. IE violins 1, 2 , violas 1, 2 cellos, dubbl bass can each have their own folder that can all reside in one 'Strings' folder.
(& any section can each have their own sub section as well.)
All can be nested into one 'Orchestra' folder then minimized or opened one at a time or in multiples.

When you do the same with brass, winds, perc or any other tracks in your project it greatly helps with workflow, at least mine anyway.

I always have had control over where new tracks get inserted, so I don't quite understand what is happening for you to where this does not occur.

When I insert a new track, I right click just to the right of the track name below where I want the new track to appear.  Then, after clicking on Insert Audio Track (or midi), it places the new track above the track I right-clicked on.

Does that not address this issue for you?
