  • X2 crashes when using Mackie Control via USB

Hi, my sonar x2 has worked with my mackie control well in the past. Now it is stable except when I run the mackie control over usb. When it crashes I close it and can't restart it. I go to task manager and there is no app running but under processes I still see SONARPDR.EXE.  I can't do an end process or end process tree on it. It stays there. But as soon as I turn off my mackie ... boom... it finally closes and disapears from processes.

What do you think is causing this "conflict"? How can I trouble shoot this issue?

Thanks for your help,

Kevin

What sort of USB port are you plugged into with it?  Perhaps you can try different ports to see if that helps.  Some ports have power, and some don't, and some may be USB 1.1, USB 2.0, or USB 3.0 - it can make a difference.

Does this lock up regardless of the makeup of the project in Sonar?  Sometimes 32-bit plugs can hang SONARPDR, but in those cases I believe you would also see BitBridge running, although I cannot say for sure, as I do not run 32-bit plugins in 64-bit Sonar very often.

Are you running X2 or X2a?

Is there any more detail you could provide?

Thanks Bob for the quick response!

OK, so I may have found the problem. Has been working fine for the afternoon so far. I disabled AVG anti virus. I was ignoring this because so many folks have said that today's anti virus programs won't interfere with Sonar. And I think I shared that experience in the past. But for me and this particular computer / project...Well for me they do interfere. So no more AVG while working in Sonar.

Thank you,

Kevin

Hey Star Tekh, thank you!  :)  Just made that change. That must be why my Mackie sometimes stops controlling X2 in the middle of a session.

Things are looking up ^

Thanks again!

Still no joy. I disabled power management of the usb ports. Sometimes, if I leave a project loaded and take a break,  when I return to the computer sonar is stuck. Until i turn off the mackie. then it works again. So i leave sonar running with a loaded project, take a break, and when i return i click to start playback and it just hangs there unti i turn off the mackie.

Does your hard drive get turned off after some period of time?  I have ALL of my devices remaining on all the time.

I think if you set the time values to zero (0), it tells Windows to leave on always.  I do this for screen and hard drives, and also tell it to have min/max for processors at 100%.  Also, some hard drives are 'green' and go to a reduced spin rate after a while, and I think this can cause problems.

I think sometimes things just don't wake up well.

I spun up the hard drives using windows explorer prior to hitting play so i could rule that out. These are Western Digital Green Caviar drives (both) . It's an Asus m4a78t-e mb. I'll try the zero setting in advanced power options.  I have it set to never sleep. I'm going into the deeper settings and setting hard drvies to sleep after 0. I see "Allow Hybrid sleep", i'll have to google what that does.
